Introduction: "Rain Lane" is Dai Wangshu's masterpiece, and he has also won the title of "Rain Lane Poet". The poem is also the most successful example of the most successful use of suggestive lyricism in Chinese modernist poetry. The poem uses an elusive feeling, a fluctuating inner state, and a vague and hazy image to express the loneliness, lost feelings and empty melancholy emotions of his vain pursuit of lilac-like beautiful ideals.
Dai Wangshu's poems generally do not directly express reality and show the chaotic social life, but through emotions full of tragic colors, trepidation and unfulfilled ideals, they reveal the dark and ugly social reality that is absolutely incompatible with the poet. His poems are shrouded in despair and disillusionment, helplessness, boredom and loneliness about life.
Dai Wangshu was not only deeply influenced by the French symbolist poetic style, but also inherited the artistic style of China's old poetry, especially the late Tang poetry, and many of the images of his lyric poems, such as the lonely wanderer, the fence, and the cold wind, are the usual images of ancient Chinese poetry. They were combined with the symbolism of the 20th century to produce new meanings and effects.

Holding an oil-paper umbrella, alone
It seems to be long, long
And lonely rain alley,
I hope to meet
A lilac like
A girl with a grudge.
She is there
Clove-like color,
The fragrance of cloves,
Lilac-like sorrow,
Weeping in the rain,
Mourning and wandering;
She wandered in this lonely rain alley.
Hold up an oil-paper umbrella
Like me, like me
Silently,
Cold, poignant, and sad.
She approached silently
Approached and threw again
Too breathy general vision,
She floated by
Like a dream
It was as miserable and confused as a dream.
It's like floating through a dream
A lilac,
I floated by this girl;
She was silently far away, far away,
To the decadent fence,
Walk through this rainy alley.
In the lament of the rain,
Faded her color,
Scatter her fragrance,
Dissipated, even hers
Too much of a breath of sight,
Lilac-like melancholy.
Lonely rain alley
I hope to float by
