After the death of Emperor Taiji, Dorgon helped Xiaozhuang's orphans and widows gain power, and successfully defeated Prince Hauge, who coveted imperial power. Thanks to this, Dorgon naturally became the regent second only to the emperor.
At that time, Xiaozhuang and Dorgon, one was a beautiful widow of "thirty like wolves", and the other was a heroic figure who had just passed the age of establishment, and no one could guarantee that there would be no fragrant stories between them.
If Dorgon had not led the Zhenglan Banner army into Shanhaiguan and taken control of Beijing, I am afraid that Xiao Fulin, who was only five years old, would be in danger in the political turmoil. Therefore, the Manchu Dynasty Wenwu believed that the reason why Fu Lin was able to ascend the throne was entirely due to Dorgon, and Xiaozhuang's mother and son should repay him.
According to Manchu custom, the younger brother could marry a widow. According to legend, it was just in time for the death of Dorgon's wife Yuanbei, so the ministers planned to promote the marriage between Dorgon and Xiaozhuang. However, after all, the woman is the empress dowager, and it is a little embarrassing to say it too bluntly, so the reasons given by the ministers are more euphemistic:
"The regent was highly respected and took the initiative to cede the throne to His Majesty, a virtue rare in the ages. His Majesty says every day that he will repay the Prince Regent, but how can such a great kindness be repaid? It so happens that the regent is the uncle of the present Saint, and he passes the throne to His Majesty as if he were passing the throne to his own son. Since the Prince Regent can treat His Majesty as if he were his own son, why should His Majesty not treat the Prince Regent as his father? This way of repaying is the most appropriate for the minister. ”
At this time, Fan Wencheng stood up and directly pointed out the matter: "Recently I heard that the regent princess has just passed away, and the empress dowager has been widowed for many years. Since His Majesty wanted to treat the Prince Regent as if he were a father, he naturally could not allow his parents to live apart. Therefore, I also ask Your Majesty to allow the Prince Regent to live with the Empress. ”
In the history of the wilderness, there was also a spectacular scene of Wen wuqun courtiers holding weddings for the regent, and Fu Lin even personally wrote an edict: "The regent of the emperor, the current Fang Widower, the Zhou Room Yi relative, the YuanXun nobleman, his identity and appearance, are the first person in the country, and the empress dowager is quite willing to marry." Be merciful and respectful. A ceremony should be held, and the department should be pre-organized. ”
However, under this seemingly blessed word, what is hidden is Xiao Fulin's murderous heart towards his uncle. After all, no one wants to betray his mother in exchange for power, even if he is forced by political pressure to borrow a donkey, he is always difficult to let go. Therefore, after the death of the regent, the Shunzhi Emperor turned his face and retaliated by "cutting off the knighthood, removing the temple enjoyment, deposing the title, deposing the clan room, and entering the palace with property". It can be said that all this began with the foreshadowing of the fu lin marriage incident.
Speaking of the marriage between Dorgon and Xiaozhuang, some people may ask: At that time, the two were newly married to Yan'er, and they were both thirty years old, why did they not leave children in the seven-year marriage?
In my opinion, this is mostly Dolgun's personal reason. According to the literature, Dorgon was a person with a relatively strong peach blossom luck, and there were countless women around him. There are only those with names and surnames in the historical records, and there are at least ten people. Of all Dorgon's wives, only one Korean concubine bore him a daughter, and Dorgon had no other descendants besides this daughter. As for Dolbo, he was not Dolgun's biological son, but Dolgun had inherited from his younger brother Dorgon.
Why are these episodes not found in the canonical history?
In fact, this is because the later Manchu Qing emperors deepened their Sinicization, and they accepted traditional Chinese moral practices. Before entering the Central Plains, many northern ethnic groups, including the Manchus, had the custom of "succession marriage". In other words, the brother's wife has passed away, and as a great uncle or uncle, you can marry a widow (sister-in-law).
Obviously, this phenomenon is impossible in the Central Plains where Cheng Zhu Lixue is prevalent, and the situation of widows marrying their uncles will not only not be blessed by their relatives, but may also be dealt with by "soaking pig cages". As he became more and more Sinicized, the Manchu Emperor gradually realized that it was not a praiseworthy thing for a little uncle to marry his sister-in-law.
Therefore, in the later laws of the Qing Dynasty, there was such a clause: "Those who accept their fathers and grandmothers and uncles and aunts, behead; those who accept brothers and sisters-in-law and sisters-in-law, hang!" In fact, this phenomenon is very rare in the Central Plains, and only the ancient northern tribes will have a "succession system", so the Manchu Qing Emperor's move is undoubtedly to cover up.
In the Qianlong period, during the compilation of the Siku Quanshu, Qianlong specially ordered Ji Xiaolan to destroy a large number of relevant historical materials, completely erasing the marriage relationship between Xiaozhuang and Dorgon. Since then, official history has lost records of Dorgon marrying a widow, and only some folk histories still retain these hidden feelings.
Of course, all this is the speculation of historians, and whether Xiaozhuang married Dorgon or not is still inconclusive. The only certainty is that Xiaozhuang did not give birth to an heir to Dorgon.
