There are often some New Year comedy movies released in the annual Lunar New Year slot, but it is interesting that there has been little talk of The New Year in the field of TV dramas, and naturally there are very few Lunar New Year TV series. Directed by Yao Xiaofeng and starring Yao Chen and Bai Yu, "Holiday Warm Yangyang" is known as "the first New Year light comedy", giving itself a creative positioning.
"Holiday Warmth" is a platter-style TV series. Set against the backdrop of the Spring Festival, several families came to Sanya, Hainan for a vacation, and the story took place within a few days of the vacation.
The first group of relationships is between veteran agent Xu Yi (Yao Chen) and the resort's "mysterious representative" Hou Hao (Bai Yu). The feelings between the two are the domineering royal sister vs the little milk dog. But it is different from the general sister-brother love "strong woman and weak man" "woman rational, man naïve" model, Permission Yi and Hou Hao are equal opponents between two adults, and sparks are everywhere between you and me. This set of relationships has become the biggest highlight of "Holiday Warm Yangyang" and the driving force for many viewers to chase the drama.
The second group of relationships is between former husband and wife Chen Binbin (Dapeng) and Song Xiaoke (Zhang Jingchu). In addition to his ex-wife, Chen Binbin's grandmother, parents, aunts and cousins also came to Sanya for a vacation. The family did not know that Chen Binbin had been divorced, and Chen Binbin asked Song Xiaoke to wait for the year before announcing the news of the divorce to the family, but in fact, he used this as a "delaying strategy" to pursue his wife again.
In fact, this set of relationships is the main story of "Holiday Warm Yangyang" when it was originally filed, but it is the story line that allows Yi Houhao to be added later. The drama side really has to thank the later addition of the line of permission to Hou Hao, otherwise it is really a bit old-fashioned and boring as far as Chen Bin Bin and Song Xiaoke's emotional line are concerned. In the New Year, the audience may be more inclined to watch a relaxed and happy plot, rather than watching a husband who has been with the mud in the marriage, only to wake up after the wife leaves, and all kinds of foolishness to save. It's not funny at all.
Because Chen Binbin came with his family, it also involved the contradiction between his grandmother and his mother-in-law, and his cousin and a middle-aged man with a widowed son were "old and young love"... All kinds of chicken feathers, chicken flying dog jump. Except for the cousin's "love of old and young" to some extent conveys the fresh concept of free love, the Chen family is generally very much like some traditional Chinese families: under the harmony of the group, there are various concessions and compromises; the collective looks joyful and festive, but the individual is not necessarily happy.
"Holiday Warm" was only launched at the end of May 2020 and aired in early 2021, which can be said to have a very tight production cycle. Also because it was filmed after the outbreak of the epidemic, the series has added relevant content with the times. The third set of relationships in the play is based on the anti-epidemic doctor Wen Yang (played by Chu Shuzhong). Because he has been busy with work, Wen Yang neglects to accompany his daughter Wen Ruonan (Lan Xiya). Coupled with the death of his wife, the relationship between father and daughter is even more tense. This trip to Sanya to treat anti-epidemic medical staff provides an opportunity for the father and daughter to open their hearts.
Although this set of relationships is quite time-sensitive and reflects the respect of the creators for the anti-epidemic doctors, from the perspective of creation, the entire story structure is too hasty, and every step of the change in the relationship between the characters is in the routine.
As a platter TV series, the quality of the different story lines of "Holiday Warm" is uneven. Permission yi Houhao's sister-brother love is of the highest standard and the strongest to see; and whether it is the story of the Chen family or the father-daughter line of the anti-epidemic doctor, it lacks novelty. Just imagine, if you take away the line of permission Yi Houhao, it is difficult to support this drama with the other two sets of stories alone. The tension of the creative time still affects the quality of the whole play; there are many good sentences, but it is difficult to become a good article.
But overall, "Holiday Warm" is still a New Year TV series that is timely. The joy of singing and dancing in the TV series can still set off the joyful atmosphere of the coming New Year. And its greater significance may be the concept of "New Year light comedy" thrown out in the field of television dramas. In the future New Year, the audience may be accompanied not only by New Year movies and Spring Festival movies, but also by New Year TV series and Spring Festival TV series. However, we hope that the next year's Chinese New Year light comedy can be more fully prepared and more mature in creation.
