Kim Carey became a Hollywood superstar at the age of 32. From "Detective Planehead", "Stranger in Disguise", "Dumb and Dumb", "Ace Commissioner", "Truman's World" to "Counterfeit Gods".
1994 was the year of Kim Carey's explosion and a year of legend, when he made $20 million on a film. But, underneath his perfect smile and bouncy face, it was a tragic past.
When Kim Carey was 12 years old, his father was forced to lay off. So he and his siblings had to study at school during the day and work in a tire factory at night, making ends meet by mopping the floor and brushing the toilet. The consequence of that was that when the workload was too much to bear, it all got worse, Carre recalled, and he went to school exhausted, inattentive, trying to "break someone's head." He went from being an all-eugenic student to not wanting to know anyone's name and not wanting to make friends. Then, when he dropped out of school at the age of 16, he used the money he saved to buy a van for his family, and then chose to go out wandering.
"My father lost his job at 51 and that was the real 'wow' and the fatal blow," Kim Carey said. "We stayed in the van for a while, we worked together as security guards and doormen, we stayed at campsites or on the lawn of my sister's house in the country, and it was cold in my tent."
At the same time, his mother suffered from severe depression and was often bedridden. She often complained about her health, and her fervent plea for love stemmed from her miserable childhood. With a poor father, three siblings, and an emotionless mother, life in the van was breathtaking.
Kim Carey said: "My mother was uncomfortable most of the time. "My mom is addicted to painkillers. She was very ill in many parts of her body. She's cute too, but she's the "little kid" of alcoholics, and she's problematic, but it's not intentionally giving up — but if you're always addicted to painkillers, that's self-abandonment. I used to try to imitate the mantis movements — I ran to the wall and bounced myself off the stairs in hopes of making her feel better. "
Later, Kim Carey began performing at local stand-up comedy clubs in Canada and then auditioned in Hollywood. A few months after being selected for the cast of Vivid Colors in 1990, his mother died of an overdose. Kim Carey's father, who eventually died in 1994 before becoming a household name star — failed to witness his son's moment of success.
