On May 9, Reuters, citing two people familiar with the matter, said that the Biden administration will announce a comprehensive decision on tariffs on China as early as next week, and new tariffs are expected to be imposed on key strategic sectors.
The key strategic sectors include electric vehicles, semiconductors, and solar energy equipment in China.
Also on May 9, Singapore's Lianhe Zaobao website reported that the Biden administration in the United States is planning to restrict China and Russia from using American artificial intelligence (AI) models, and initial plans include putting up guardrails for AI models like ChatGPT.
According to Reuters, AFP and other media reports, the Biden administration added 37 Chinese entities to the trade restriction list on May 9 local time on the grounds of so-called "threats to national security".
The Commerce Department said it also targeted companies that are trying to acquire U.S. products to advance China's quantum technology capabilities.
Just in April, high-level US officials visited China one after another, and also mentioned cooperation in the field of artificial intelligence. The shamelessness of the Americans is really invincible in the world.
Believe it or not, none of this news is groundless.
Not long ago, U.S. Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen and Secretary of State Antony Blinken visited China successively, raising a series of issues such as overcapacity and Russian trade, so it is not difficult to understand where this escalation of sanctions came from.
More importantly, as we said, this year is an election year in the United States, and all the major policies and initiatives of the Biden administration are related to the election.
What does this have to do with the election? Of course it has to do with it!
For example, the Biden administration's tariffs on Chinese cars will put American auto companies in an advantageous position to compete and make auto workers feel that the president is protecting them.
Those auto companies will support Biden's election and even donate to him, and the auto workers will vote for him.

Why is it acting? The reason is simple, how many Chinese cars are sold in the United States?
In 2023, the total number of vehicles exported from mainland China will reach a staggering 5.22 million units, and only about 70,000 units will be exported to the United States.
Moreover, the models exported to the United States are basically Volvo and Buick Envision, which are mixed breeds, among which there is a pure domestic model, JAC's IEV pure electric sedan, which sells very little in China.
In addition, there are a small number of electric buses, such as BYD.
Some say there's also Tesla. However, Tesla's cars produced in Shanghai began to be sold to Canada last year, and I haven't heard that they will be sold to the United States, so have they been resold from Canada to the United States? We have not found any information and cannot confirm this.
In short, there are really few Chinese cars sold to the United States. So you say, what's the point of the Biden administration pretending to impose tariffs on Chinese cars exported to the United States? The meaning can only be a ballot.
