Recently, the "Red Scarf Practice Garden" in Guozijian Community, Andingmen Street, has reaped the first wave of results, and the students have sent these fruits of labor to the homes of the elderly, the elderly living alone and the disabled residents in the community.
Walking into the "Red Scarf Practice Garden" in the courtyard of No. 28 Guozijian Street, spinach, chrysanthemum, camellia and other vegetables are arranged in an orderly manner in the field, and it is hard to imagine that just a month ago, this vegetable garden of about 300 square meters was still barren. Wang Yanyan, secretary of the Party Committee of Guozijian Community, told reporters that this place was originally a garden, but it was gradually abandoned due to property rights and other reasons.
In order to eliminate hidden dangers, effectively use the vacant land, and build a labor practice platform for the students, Guozijian community workers and volunteers of the "Sage Neighborhood" gang spent two weeks cleaning up the debris piled up in the vacant lot. On the day of Gu Yu, Guozijian Community and Fangjia Hutong Primary School affiliated to Beijing No. 5 Middle School Branch officially established the "Red Scarf Practice Garden" here, and the students planted corn, soybeans, beans, cucumbers, tomatoes, leeks, celery, spinach, chrysanthemum, coriander, eggplant and other crops and vegetables.
"The community has opened a realistic version of the 'Happy Farm' in the core urban area where every inch of land is at a premium, so that students can learn about farming culture and experience the joy of working, cultivating and harvesting in their spare time, which is a very meaningful thing." The parents of student Ye Wenwen said.
Sowing, watering, weeding, fertilizing...... Fangjia Hutong Primary School is a class-based school, led by a class teacher or extracurricular counselor, and organizes students to come to the vegetable garden two to three times a week during recess. In the past month, nearly 300 students have come to the "Red Scarf Practice Park" to learn about agricultural tools, various crops and vegetable seedlings, experience the fun and hard work of farming, and feel the joy of harvest.
On this day, the students walked to the practice garden with small baskets and relaxed and happy steps to pick ripe vegetables. Community volunteers squatted on the ridges of the fields and patiently taught the skills of picking chrysanthemum and spinach: "When picking chrysanthemum, you need to gently pinch the stems, while spinach needs to be uprooted, and after pulling out, you need to gently knock it on the ground to shake off the soil." "Everyone carefully plucked the tender vegetables that had just ripen and placed them neatly in the basket.
Afterwards, the students carried baskets and followed the volunteers of the "Saint Neighborhood" gang in the community to deliver freshly picked vegetables to the homes of the elderly, elderly living alone and disabled residents in the community. Wang Yaxin, a student in Class 6 of the third grade of Fangjia Hutong Primary School, said: "I think it is very meaningful to grow and pick vegetables and give them to the elderly. I didn't think that my small efforts could warm others, which is a life lesson that I can't learn in textbooks. ”
"The students deliver their hard-earned fruits and vegetables to the recipients together with the volunteers of the community gang, in this way to cultivate their caring for others and inherit the culture of filial piety." Wang Yanyan said that in the future, the students will take more of the results they have harvested to the community "Sage Neighborhood" market for charity sale, and the proceeds will be donated to the community micro-fund to serve the needy groups in the community.
