More than 160 years ago, the Englishman John Thomson came to China and recorded Chinese society in the late Qing Dynasty with his camera. Posing occupies a large part of his photographic works, and all 18 photos in this group are posed.
When John Thomson came to China, it was the beginning of a change in modern China. After the Opium War, the Sino-French War, and the Taiping Civil Strife, the last "Zhongxing" era before the collapse of the crumbling Qing Empire.
