On the morning of April 28, as an important encyclopedic historical material reflecting the social and historical changes in modern China, the symposium on the release of the new book "Retreat Diary" was successfully held in the Ancient Books Museum of Shanxi Provincial Library.
The relevant persons in charge of the Propaganda Department of the Provincial Party Committee, Shanxi Publishing and Media Group, Sanjin Publishing House, Shanxi Provincial Library, Chinese Social History Research Center of Shanxi University, and relevant experts from Shanxi Publishing and Distribution Industry Association attended the event. Luo Zhitian, Chang Jianhua, Xinglong, Zhao Shiyu, Yang Nianqun, Zhao Yanjie and other well-known scholars in the field of Chinese social history were invited to attend the symposium.
The Diary of Retreat is a collection of the diaries of Liu Dapeng, a scholar of modern Chinese local history and a sage of Taiyuan County, Shanxi Province, for a period of 52 years, from 1891 to 1942. With a unique and personalized literati vision, the diary records the social and historical changes in northern China from the late Qing Dynasty to the turbulent era of the Republic of China, and is a very rare social historical material that records a region continuously and truthfully in the form of a diary.
This set of books is based on the single copy of "Retreat Diary" in the collection of Shanxi Provincial Library, a total of 28 volumes, which will provide comprehensive and rich literature for the research of related disciplines centered on social history research. The relevant person in charge of Shanxi Publishing and Media Group said that the publication of "Retreat Diary" in a complete form is a landmark event in the field of cultural engineering construction in Shanxi Province, and is also a major event in the field of modern Chinese history and Chinese humanities and social sciences, which has immeasurable cultural demonstration significance and influence.
At the symposium, six experts and scholars discussed the academic value, historical value and publication value of the "Retreat Diary". Experts believe that there are very few scholar's diaries of such size and good preservation as Liu Dapeng's diary, and the photocopy and publication in the form of "completeness" not only provides real and valuable information for today's understanding of history, but also provides a new starting point for the transformation of Chinese social history research methods, and provides infinite possibilities for the subsequent innovation of various research methods.
