The announcement was made by Minister for Sustainable Development and Environment Fu Haiyan during her speech at the Singapore Tourism Board's Annual Tourism Conference today (10 May).

This new attraction can take advantage of the unique surroundings of the Marina Barrage and the southern waterfront to create an unforgettable experience for visitors.

Ms Fu said there was a growing demand for wellness tourism in the tourism market, and the new attractions could help transform Singapore into an "urban wellness haven".

In order to enhance the development of the tourism industry, MGTO signed two memorandums of understanding today.

The first MoU was signed by MGTO, Marina Bay Sands and United Overseas Bank (UOB) to formalise the Marina Bay Area partnership, which includes 26 Marina Bay Area partners.

MGTO hopes to make the Marina Bay Area a must-see attraction for tourists by hosting top-notch events such as drone light shows and other exclusive experiences.

Singapore's tourism industry is recovering

As of April this year, 5.7 million visitors have visited Singapore, about 90% of the same period in 2019, with Chinese visitors being the most.

In the past few months, major events and concerts by international superstars have not only raised the buzz about Singapore, but also attracted many tourists to Singapore.

While the tourism industry continues to recover, Singapore must also improve its competitiveness and develop a long-term development plan through the launch of new development projects, the revitalization and promotion of tourism products, and the development of future leaders in the industry.

Tourism 2040 Blueprint

MGTO will formulate a long-term strategy and blueprint for Tourism 2040, outlining new opportunities and areas that can drive the next wave of quality tourism growth.

The Urban Renewal Authority (URA) is also reviewing the 2025 Master Plan to chart out the priorities for the next 10 to 15 years.

For Vision 2040, Fu hopes that Singapore, as a world-class tourist destination, can bring different travel experiences to tourists while becoming a home that Singaporeans can be proud of.

Major tourism projects currently under construction include Marina Bay Tower 4, which is expected to be completed by 2030.
