In 1928, Peking Opera master Mei Lanfang inaugurated the theater, and it was reported that "Mei Kai Guangming" caused a sensation in the city. Five years later, the British-Chinese Lugan spent a huge amount of money to rebuild it, making it the "movie palace" at that time. At that time, it was synonymous with fashion and modernity in Shiliyangchang, and it was also a holy place for Hollywood fans in Shanghai. It is the "Great Light Cinema" designed by the famous Hungarian architect Laszlo Hudec.
As the former film palace, Daguang Cinema has deeply promoted the international exchanges of China's film industry. The renovation will upgrade the 100-meter-long historical and cultural corridor with a diverse and contemporary digital expression, allowing the audience to explore all the major events from the birth of the cinema in 1928 to the present as if traveling through time and space.
In the century-old spiral stairwell of Shanghai Daguang Cinema, the light art installation "Hundred Years of Glory" hangs in it.
The shape of "One Hundred Years of Light" is derived from film film, the work integrates light and music, and with the beating of the notes, the lights dance and change in the space, creating a mysterious and tranquil atmosphere, as if recording the 100-year glory of the Daguang Cinema.
The spiral staircase in which the work spirals echoes its spiral form, like a mysterious road connecting the past and the future. Every flicker of light is like a freeze frame of a picture, freezing time in the glorious moment of this century-old theater, and placing a tribute to history and a yearning for the future.
Walking up the 100-year-old spiral staircase, you will arrive at the digital light and shadow restaurant "Midnight MIDNITE", which is the most important part of the renovation plan.
The name of the restaurant originates from the original musical "Singing in the Middle of the Night" by Daguang Culture Group, and the overall artistic creativity, design inspiration, and functional partition are all based on "movie". The restaurant has a 600-square-meter panoramic terrace with a panoramic view of the tree-lined People's Park, and at night, the neon lights of Nanjing Road are accompanied by a cool breeze, which is cosy and romantic in the middle of the night. "Midnight" takes the movie as the theme and creates a diversified digital art experience: a 200-square-meter digital canopy, a 600-square-meter panoramic terrace, and a wrap-around hologram...... The romantic and modern multi-level city curtain makes movie fans linger. Between the terrace and the restaurant lobby, the design team designed a 360-degree light and shadow stage for the "middle of the night". On sunny days, the lobby and terrace are open at the same time, allowing spectators and diners to choose their seating areas, and in rainy days, the stage is open to the lobby and the rain outside the window becomes a natural backdrop. In the future, special or cross-border performances of top IPs in the fields of Western classical, Eastern Chinese music, jazz, dance, and drama will be staged on this stage.
Two immersive themed dinners resonate with the five senses with digital art.
In the depths of "Midnight MIDNITE" are two specially designed spaces where immersive themed dinners with different themes will be staged, where all diners will be able to enjoy a meal while feeling the five senses brought by digital art. In the first theme dinner, all diners will gather around the world to fly through the world to the depths of space under the guidance of the exclusive "AI virtual human" in the middle of the night, shuttling through the movie worlds of different countries, while tasting a variety of delicacies, experiencing the perfect fusion of extremely immersive digital artworks and gluttonous food. In another space, a themed dinner with interaction at its core will unfold. All diners will have a special identity here, and through interaction with the space, installation and food, they will co-create and interpret a special film. Between the staggered cups, the light and shadow are smart and interesting.
