On October 26, the reporter learned from Shantou Customs that in the first three quarters of this year, the total value of foreign trade imports and exports in Shantou, Meizhou, Shanwei, Chaozhou and Jieyang in eastern Guangdong was 113.71 billion yuan, an increase of 12% over the same period last year. Among them, exports were 89.04 billion yuan, an increase of 10.8%; imports were 24.67 billion yuan, an increase of 16.7%.
Imports and exports of private enterprises increased by 10.6%
What are the characteristics of foreign trade imports and exports in eastern Guangdong in the first three quarters of this year? Customs officials said that in the first three quarters of this year, the import and export of general trade in eastern Guangdong grew rapidly, with imports and exports of 99.8 billion yuan, a substantial increase of 38.7%, accounting for 87.8% of the total import and export value of foreign trade in eastern Guangdong in the same period, accounting for an increase of 16.9 percentage points compared with last year. In the same period, the import and export of processing trade was 11.93 billion yuan, an increase of 12.2%, accounting for 10.5%.

It is worth noting that the import and export of private enterprises accounts for more than 70%. In the first three quarters, the import and export of private enterprises in eastern Guangdong was 82.88 billion yuan, an increase of 10.6%, accounting for 72.9%, accounting for an increase of 1 percentage point compared with last year. In the same period, the import and export of foreign-invested enterprises was 23.47 billion yuan, an increase of 6.8%, and the import and export of state-owned enterprises was 7.35 billion yuan, a substantial increase of 61.3%.
Customs officials said that ASEAN, the United States, the European Union, Hong Kong and Japan were the top five major trading partners in eastern Guangdong, and they all achieved growth in the first three quarters. Among them, the import and export to ASEAN was 24.38 billion yuan, an increase of 27.4%, accounting for 21.4%, the largest foreign trade market in eastern Guangdong; imports and exports to the United States, the European Union, Hong Kong, and Japan all increased significantly, up 31.6%, 5.9%, 18% and 31.9% respectively year-on-year; the import and export of the above five major trade markets accounted for 61.5% of the total import and export value of eastern Guangdong.
Toy exports declined
In terms of categories, in the first three quarters, the export of mechanical and electrical products in eastern Guangdong grew rapidly, and the export of labor-intensive products declined slightly. In the first three quarters, the export of mechanical and electrical products in eastern Guangdong was 30.31 billion yuan, an increase of 31.5%, accounting for 34% of the total export value, accounting for an increase of 5.4 percentage points compared with last year, driving export growth of 9 percentage points; toy exports fell more obviously, exports of 8.98 billion yuan, down 28.4%. In addition, ceramic products, agricultural products, plastic products, etc. exported 9.48 billion yuan, 7.7 billion yuan and 4.94 billion yuan respectively, an increase of 13.1%, 6.2% and 22.9% respectively.

Commodity coal has played a significant role in driving import growth. In the first three quarters, eastern Guangdong imported 7.13 billion yuan of coal, a substantial increase of 146.5%, accounting for 28.9% of the total import value, driving import growth of 20 percentage points. In the same period, the import of mechanical and electrical products, agricultural products and primary shape plastics, which are the main imports in eastern Guangdong, have declined. The import of consumer goods that the people are concerned about is 2.14 billion yuan, down 13.3%; among them, the growth of dairy products is more obvious, with a cumulative import of 390 million yuan, an increase of 34.3%; the import of fresh and dried fruits and nuts is 1.22 billion yuan, down 22.3%.
