China's PMI remained in expansionary territory in April
The China Federation of Logistics and Purchasing and the Service Industry Survey Center of the National Bureau of Statistics released China's purchasing managers' index for April on April 30. The manufacturing purchasing managers' index and the non-manufacturing business activity index continued to remain above 50 percent, and the mainland's economic prosperity level continued to expand on the whole.
In April, China's manufacturing purchasing managers' index was 50.4%, which was in the expansion range for two consecutive months, and the manufacturing industry continued to maintain a recovery momentum.
From the perspective of sub-indexes, the production index in April was 52.9%, up 0.7 percentage points from the previous month and the highest since April 2023, and the production expansion of manufacturing enterprises accelerated.
From the perspective of demand, the market demand in the manufacturing industry continued to recover, the new orders index and the new export orders index were above the critical point, and the export business of enterprises continued to improve overall.
New drivers continued to expand at a rapid pace. In April, the purchasing managers' index of equipment manufacturing and high-tech manufacturing was 51.3% and 53.0% respectively, both higher than the overall level of the manufacturing industry.
In addition, the non-manufacturing business activity index in April was 51.2%, continuing to be above the 50% threshold, and the non-manufacturing industry continued to expand.
In the first quarter of this year, 1.419 billion domestic trips continued to rise
The Ministry of Culture and Tourism announced on April 30 that in the first quarter of this year, the number of domestic trips in mainland China was 1.419 billion, a year-on-year increase of 16.7 percent, and the total travel expenditure of domestic tourists was 1.52 trillion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 17.0 percent.
