The "May Day" holiday has arrived, and many popular cities have ushered in the peak of tourists, and scenic spots around the country have been "full". In order to avoid the crowds, some people have set their sights on lesser-known tourist destinations. Before the May Day holiday, a survey conducted by the Social Survey Center of China Youth Daily and the wenjuan.com Questionnaire Network () showed that 58.8% of respondents preferred to choose unpopular tourist destinations during holidays, which was higher than the selection rate of popular tourist destinations (35.8%). Avoiding peak traffic and providing a better experience were the main reasons respondents chose lesser-known destinations.

According to the survey, unpopular tourist destinations are more popular during the holidays

The popularity of unpopular tourist destinations lies in the fact that people value the experience more

Song Yuchen, a post-00s student studying at a university in Beijing, is preparing to travel to Yulin City, Shaanxi Province during this "May Day" holiday. She feels that every time she travels during the holidays, there are a lot of tourists in popular cities, and some scenic spots take a lot of time just to queue up to enter. "I went to Xi'an with my friends during the Qingming holiday before, and there were a lot of people, and many places were 'sightseeing' check-ins, lacking in-depth experience. Before the "May Day" holiday, she and her friends began to search for some "unpopular" tourist destinations on social platforms, and saw that someone recommended Yulin as a place that was not very famous, but the photos taken were very good, so they decided to go to this city to have a look.

Wang Changhao, a post-90s generation who works in Nanjing, set the "May Day" tourist destination in Jixi County, Xuancheng City, Anhui Province, and planned to drive there with his family during the holiday. "I have always been yearning for the water towns in the south of the Yangtze River, and I have been to Huangshan before, but I have caught up with the tourist season and there are more tourists. This time I chose Jixi, on the one hand, the popularity is not so high, and the flow of people will be relatively less, on the other hand, the local scenery is very beautiful, the environment is also good, and it is suitable for in-depth play. ”

According to the survey, 58.8% of the respondents prefer to choose lesser-known cities/attractions during the holidays, while 35.8% of the respondents choose popular tourist cities/attractions. Interaction analysis found that the proportion of post-00 respondents who preferred to choose unpopular cities/attractions was higher, at 70.0%.

"The last time I waited for the bathroom in the scenic area, it took more than half an hour, and at that time I thought, when I come out to play later, I must avoid popular cities and scenic spots. Liu Nian, a post-95 generation in Shandong, feels that niche and unpopular tourist destinations are becoming more and more popular, mainly because everyone now pays more attention to the experience of traveling, "Instead of crowding people in the scenic spot, it is better to choose a place that is not well-known, but can play comfortably." During the May Day holiday, she plans to visit the border city of Dandong in Liaoning Province with her family.

According to the survey, the reason for choosing an unpopular tourist destination, avoiding the peak of foot traffic, and having a better experience ranked first, with a selection rate of 57.5%. 48.5% of the respondents said that they could visit the local area at a slower pace and in depth, and 39.7% said that it cost less and was more cost-effective. In addition, tickets are relatively easy to buy (39.2%), avoid homogenization, have local cultural characteristics (38.8%), beautiful scenery and unique scenery (35.6%), have a low degree of commercialization, have fireworks (32.6%), can better achieve the purpose of relaxation and leisure (27.2%), and complete supporting services (6.0%).

Song Yuchen feels that when traveling, cost performance is an important consideration. She said that every holiday, the price of hotels in various places will increase significantly, especially in some popular cities or cities that suddenly "exploded", and the hotel prices during the holidays are several times the usual, and it is not cost-effective to go to play at this time. "There is a direct train from Beijing to Yulin, we grabbed the sleeper, and checked the local hotel in advance, the price is not too high, overall it is not over the budget, more suitable for our kind of college students who are not enough funds. ”

77.3% of the respondents believe that unpopular and niche tourist destinations will become "hot" in the future

Before setting off for Dandong, Liu Nian made a travel strategy in advance, including whether the scenic spot needs to be booked in advance, how much it costs, how to take a car, etc. She found that on social platforms, some netizens left messages reminding everyone to take regular transportation, not to take "black cars", and to prevent being "pitted". Liu Nian hopes that in terms of transportation, catering, etc., tourist destinations can strengthen inspections and crack down on businesses that "bully customers" and "rip off customers", so that tourists can get a better experience.

"I prefer a place with mountains and water, closer to nature, and more relaxing. Wang Changhao feels that for some unpopular cities or scenic spots, it is very important to strengthen safety guarantees, such as setting up warning signs in some undeveloped areas to remind tourists to improve safety awareness. "The weather is not very good in many places this holiday, if you go to the mountains and rivers, you should pay attention to the weather changes at any time, stay away from areas with safety risks, and ensure safety. ”

For the aspects that need to be improved in unpopular and niche tourist destinations, 65.6% of the respondents believe that it is necessary to pay attention to safety inspections and safety education to ensure the personal safety of tourists, 60.0% of the respondents feel that market supervision should be strengthened, and the phenomenon of "cheating customers" and "stealing customers" should be severely cracked down, and 56.9% of the respondents suggested improving transportation and accommodation supporting services to improve service quality. In addition, special folk performances were held to enhance the influence of local culture (46.9%), diversified tourism products were developed, such as food, clothing, cultural and creative products (39.3%), and the promotion and guidance of the concept of civilized tourism (19.4%) were strengthened.

Will unpopular tourist destinations become "hot" in the future? According to the survey, 77.3% of respondents believe that they will.

Song Yuchen believes that in the Internet era, more and more unknown small cities and unpopular scenic spots have been excavated by everyone and become "treasure" tourist destinations. "Like Zibo, Shandong Province, which caught fire last year, and Tianshui, Gansu Province this year, they are all unpopular cities that did not pay much attention before, but now they are welcomed by many people. Song Yuchen feels that in the future, more and more unpopular small cities will be noticed by everyone and become new "hot".

Liu Nian feels that now everyone's attention to the quality and experience of play has increased, but whether it is a popular city or an unpopular city, if you want to be "hot", on the one hand, you must have characteristics, and on the other hand, you must have services. "If a city wants to 'get out of the circle', it must have a unique place that attracts people's attention, and if it wants to continue its popularity, it depends on how the play experience is and whether the relevant supporting services are passed. ”

Among the respondents in this survey, 46.9% were male, 53.1% were female, 12.0% were post-00, 20.5% were post-95, 37.0% were post-90, 22.3% were post-85, 6.8% were post-80s, and 1.4% were others.
