This year, April 22 marks the 55th Earth Day. In order to fully implement the spirit of the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China and the spirit of General Secretary Xi Jinping's important speech on the inspection of Shanghai, publicize Xi Jinping Thought on Ecological Civilization, guide the whole society to establish the concept of ecological civilization of "respecting nature, conforming to nature, and protecting nature", promote the construction of a beautiful China, and jointly build an earth home where man and nature coexist in harmony, the Institute of Geological Survey will carry out a variety of popular science activities on Earth Day, and everyone is welcome to participate.

01 Shanghai Geological Exhibition Hall Science Exhibition

During the 55th World Earth Day theme publicity activities (April 22-28, 2024), the Institute will open the Shanghai Geological Exhibition Hall, and arrange members of the institute's science popularization team to explain to the visitors.

02 Shanghai Urban Land Subsidence Research Activities

Event time: April 21, 2024 (Sunday)

The purpose of the activity is to popularize the history of land subsidence development in Shanghai to young people, show the picture of the times in the past 60 years of land subsidence prevention and control in Shanghai, enhance the happiness and sense of responsibility of young people as the masters of the future people's city, and firmly establish the awareness of protecting the earth and cherishing the homeland.

Activity content: 15 groups of adolescent families were recruited from the society to participate in the research activities of urban land subsidence in Shanghai. During the event, the senior lecturer of the science popularization team of our institute will explain the past and present life of land subsidence in Shanghai in the form of indoor explanation + outdoor exploration. At the end of the training, a certificate of completion will be issued to the participating youths.

【Event Route Introduction】

The route is composed of "two museums and one line", and the research sequence is "museum-line-museum". The "two halls" are the Shanghai Geological Exhibition Hall and the World Expo Land Subsidence Monitoring Exhibition Hall, and the "first line" refers to the research line of the Bund land subsidence relics in Shanghai, which is composed of historical buildings such as the Customs Building, historical bridges such as the Waibaidu Bridge, flood control walls and land subsidence monitoring points. The whole route is about 2 km, forming a research journey to explore the phenomenon and causes of land subsidence in Shanghai over the past century, the geological background, and the prevention and control measures and effectiveness.
