On April 18, the National Immigration Administration held a press conference to release the main data on immigration management in the first quarter of 2024. The total number of people entering and leaving the country was inspected by immigration management agencies nationwide, an increase of 117.8 percent year-on-year, of which 69.541 million were mainland residents, 59.115 million were Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan residents, and 13.074 million were foreigners, up 114.9 percent, 100.4 percent, and 305.2 percent year-on-year, respectively. 7,353,000 inbound and outbound transport vehicles were inspected, an increase of 78.3 percent year-on-year, including 194,000 aircraft, 24,000 trains, 102,000 ships, and 7,033,000 motor vehicles, up 158.6 percent, 14.2 percent, 15.9 percent, and 78.5 percent year-on-year, respectively.

Since the implementation of the "Hong Kong cars going north" policy, as of March 9, the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge border inspection station of the Zhuhai Border Inspection Station has inspected more than 500,000 "Hong Kong cars going north". In the first quarter, immigration management agencies across the country investigated and handled more than 10,000 criminal cases of obstructing national (border) border management, and arrested more than 14,000 criminal suspects, of which more than 12,000 were subject to criminal coercive measures and 1,785 administrative investigations and punishments, 213 criminal gangs were investigated and punished, 53 transit dens were destroyed, and 377 vehicles (vessels) involved in the cases were seized. In accordance with the law, 23,000 foreign nationals who illegally entered, resided, or illegally worked were investigated and punished, and punishments such as warnings, fines, administrative detention, and leaving the country within a set period of time were given in accordance with the law, and 4,551 of them were repatriated if they met the statutory requirements. 200 drug cases were seized, 256 people, including 38 cases of more than 10,000 grams, 2.5 tons of various drugs and 135.6 tons of drug-making materials were seized. 265 guns of various types were seized, and the value of smuggled goods seized was 110 million yuan.

On February 27, the Baoshan Border Management Detachment of the Yunnan Border Inspection Station seized a particularly large case of smuggling alcohol. In the first quarter, the National Immigration Administration launched a series of immigration and entry policies and measures, continuously optimized the regional entry visa-free, transit visa-free, and port visa policies, implemented five measures to facilitate foreigners to come to China, expanded the visa-free entry of some national personnel into Hainan, supported Fujian to build a cross-strait integrated development demonstration zone, and issued "individual travel endorsements" to and from Hong Kong and Macao for eligible personnel in Xi'an and Qingdao cities, and vigorously improved the level of immigration management and government services. A total of 6,357,000 ordinary passports, 24,987,000 endorsements for travelling to and from Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan, and 724,000 permits for Hong Kong and Macao residents travelling to and from the Mainland were issued, up 24.1 percent, 30.5 percent, and 19.9 percent year-on-year, respectively, 466,000 foreigners' visa certificates were issued, up 118.8 percent year-on-year, and 1,988,000 visa-free entrants were issued, up 266.1 percent year-on-year. There were 1.335 million calls from opinions and suggestions, with an average satisfaction rate of 99.2%.
