Recently, the Yuanqu National Weather Radar Station (X-band) project will be put into trial operation after the completion of the final radar equipment hoisting and installation, which will further improve the weather fine monitoring and forecasting and early warning capabilities of Yuanqu County, and enhance the disaster prevention and mitigation capabilities and emergency response capabilities in response to meteorological disasters.

At the construction site of the Yuanqu National Weather Radar Station (X-band) project, technicians are carrying out infrastructure construction work such as welding, excavators and hoisting machines are also leveling the ground, and the hoisting and installation of radar hosts and radar covers are a lively scene.

With a total investment of more than 1,000 yuan, the Yuanqu National Weather Radar Station (X-band) project is located on the top of Magu Mountain, Huafeng Township, Yuanqu County, and will be officially launched in June 2023. At present, the main construction of supporting infrastructure such as X-band weather radar tower has been successfully completed. Subsequently, the operation and commissioning of the radar will be completed, and it is expected to be put into use before the arrival of the main flood season.

Hu Yi, a member of the party group and deputy director of the Yuncheng Meteorological Bureau, said: "After the X-band radar in Yuanqu County was completed and put into use, the blind spots of Shanxi meteorological radar monitoring in the vertical space have been effectively supplemented, especially the monitoring level of severe weather such as heavy precipitation in Yuncheng and other places in southwest Shanxi Province has been improved."

Yuanqu County is located in the north of Zhongtiao Mountain, which belongs to the warm temperate semi-arid and semi-humid continental climate, with a large terrain difference, obvious microclimate differences, and many types of meteorological disasters in the territory.

Guo Songyan, deputy director of the Yuanqu County Meteorological Bureau, said: "For a long time, our county has only one small radar, and the ability to predict and monitor severe weather such as thunderstorms, strong winds, hail, and short-term heavy precipitation in the county is insufficient. The construction of X-band radar benefits from the comprehensive development of the forecast and monitoring infrastructure project of the National Meteorological Administration, as well as the strong support of the county party committee and the county government. ”

The Yuanqu National Weather Radar Station (X-band) adopts an all-solid-state, dual-polarization, fully coherent and pulsed Doppler system, and can continuously and real-time detect the position, intensity, velocity and other information of precipitation and precipitation clouds within a radius of 70 kilometers by using the scattering effect of the atmosphere on electromagnetic waves. It has real-time monitoring, forecasting and early warning capabilities for small- and medium-scale thunderstorms and winds, hail, strong wind shear, tornadoes and other disastrous weather, providing support for short-term, short-term and now-weather forecasting, and improving the support capacity of the meteorological system.

Fu Yaping, a senior engineer of Shanxi Provincial Atmospheric Detection Technology Center, said: "Yuanqu weather radar station is a sub-project of the national meteorological monitoring and early warning project, this radar is X-band, it has the characteristics of fast scanning time and short response time, which can quickly find disastrous weather, provide important meteorological data for meteorological forecasting, and it can also lay a solid meteorological foundation for the economic development of our county." ”

It is reported that the radar is a part of the X-band weather radar grid deployed in Jinnan, which can provide meteorological monitoring services for the entire territory of Yuanqu County and the surrounding areas such as Jiangxian, Wenxi, and Pinglu after completion, effectively improving the monitoring ability of sudden and disastrous weather, and better serving the high-quality development of the economy and society.
