At about 2:10 on May 1, a highway pavement collapse accident occurred near K11+900m from Dapu to Fujian (about 2 kilometers from the exit of Chayang Road section) of Meilong Expressway (Meida Section).
As of 11:45 on the 1st, after on-site verification, the accident caused a total of 18 vehicles to fall (no hazardous vehicles, buses and other large vehicles were found), involving a total of 49 people, of which 19 were confirmed dead, and 30 people were being treated in the hospital with no danger to life. The road collapse pavement is about 17.9 meters long and covers an area of about 184.3 square meters.
After the accident, Guangdong Province set up an accident rescue site headquarters, and more than 500 people from public security, emergency, fire protection, health, transportation, and mine rescue teams participated in the on-site rescue.
Police revealed that most of the injured were from Fujian, and some of the injured were nearby residents, and the accident occurred when they were driving through the area. Most of the injuries suffered by the injured were fractures and internal organ injuries. At present, 11 injured people are being treated at the Dapu County People's Hospital in Meizhou City, Guangdong Province, and 19 injured people are being treated at the Meizhou Municipal People's Hospital.
