Yuanchang Orchard, located in Shima Community, is the largest lychee orchard in Tangxia, with more than 2,000 lychees of various varieties planted in 150 acres of orchards. At the same time, there were many "stink bugs" (lychee tsubaki elephants) in the lychee treetops at the scene. Uncle Chang has been engaged in lychee cultivation for 30 years, and is a well-known lychee king in Tangxia and even Dongguan, and has cultivated a new lychee variety "Tang Xiahong". In his memory, this year is the second year after 2019, and the lychee production has been significantly reduced again, and the harvest may only be about 20% of last year's.
Uncle Chang said that this year is a "small year" for lychees, and a rain of ice around the Spring Festival has led to a significant decrease in the flowering rate of lychees, and the reduction of lychee production has become a foregone conclusion. "It is expected that the output of lychee this year is only about 20,000 catties, and the two varieties of cinnamon and glutinous rice balls, which are the most popular in Dongguan, have also been greatly reduced. ”
According to other lychee plantations in the town, the flowering rate of lychees this year is generally low, and the yield will be significantly reduced, and the price of lychees will be much higher than last year. Some fruit farmers said that it is reported that the flowering rate of major lychee producing areas such as Maoming and Hainan is not high this year, and the reduction of production and price increase is a foregone conclusion. Locally grown varieties such as cinnamon and glutinous rice balls are expected to exceed 100 yuan per catty, and the specific price will depend on the supply and demand situation.
