The birthplace and largest producer of lychee is China. Its production areas are relatively concentrated, mainly distributed in Guangdong, Guangxi, Fujian, Hainan, Sichuan, Yunnan and other places. According to the ranking of lychee origin competitiveness, Lingshan County in Guangxi, Gaozhou City in Guangdong Province and Dianbai District in Guangdong Province are the top three producing areas with the highest competitiveness in lychee production areas in 2023, with competitiveness indices of 503, 355 and 292 respectively. These three producing areas have performed well in lychee planting technology, variety optimization, yield and quality, bringing high-quality lychee products to domestic consumers, and further enhancing the popularity and influence of the local lychee industry.
The lychee industry in Lingshan County, Guangxi enjoys a good reputation in Guangxi and even the whole country. The county has many lychee varieties, among which March Red, Feizixiao, Black Leaf, Guiwei, Lingshan Xiangli, White Sugar Poppy and so on are the main varieties. Gaozhou City, Guangdong Province has a long history of lychee cultivation and is one of the important lychee producing areas in Guangdong Province. Lychees in Dianbai District, Guangdong Province are known for their early ripening and high quality, and their lychee varieties and planting areas are quite considerable. Electric white lychee ripens 7 to 10 days earlier than the surrounding producing areas and 15 to 30 days earlier than the Pearl River Delta producing areas, so it has a certain competitive advantage in the national lychee market.
The price index of the top 10 lychee producing areas showed significant differences, fluctuating between 371 and 751, showing a large price span. Among them, the price of lychees in Lingshan County, Guangxi Province and Dianbai District in Guangdong Province is stable in the medium to low range, which makes the lychees in the two places more price competitive in the market and attracts the favor of many buyers. The price of lychees in Gaozhou City, Guangdong Province is in the medium to high category, although the price is slightly higher, but its high quality and reputation still make buyers flock to it. This phenomenon fully shows that the appropriate price positioning has a crucial impact on the competitiveness of lychee, which can not only effectively promote sales, but also enhance the overall image and popularity of the producing area in the market.
