Recently, Israel launched an airstrike on the consular office building of the Iranian Embassy in Syria, killing seven Iranian military personnel and six Syrian citizens, including two senior Iranian commanders. Although Israel has also regularly attacked Iranian installations in Syria in the past, this is the first time that it has directly targeted Iranian embassies and consulates. The attack on the consulate is tantamount to a violation of the sovereignty of a country, and Israel clearly intends to escalate the situation. In the aftermath of the attack, Iran vowed to retaliate "on the same scale and with the same severity" and demanded that "the United States be held accountable."
Against this backdrop, Israel is fearing retaliation from Iran and is preparing for it. The IDF said it would temporarily suspend the leave of all combat units and called up reservists, based on a formal assessment. Israel is in a state of war, and the issue of troop deployment has been subject to the necessary scrutiny. Largely fearing Iranian retaliation, Israel is ramping up its air defense arrays, predicting that Iran might respond by launching missiles from its own territory, rather than through its proxy groups: Allah Lebanon, Iraqi and Yemeni militias. On top of that, Israel is carrying out the highest level of GPS jamming for fear of Iranian missile strikes, and there are videos showing Israel shipping electronic warfare equipment to Dimona, which is located in south-central Israel, near the Jordanian side. In doing so, Israel has caused a number of commercial aircraft, including ships in the Red Sea, to be affected by Israeli GPS interference.
No matter how much the outside world doubts Iran, it cannot hide Israel's fear of Iran. Israel must also know the consequences of the attack on the Iranian consulate, so why take the risk? Because as long as the Middle East is fierce, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is not afraid of domestic voices calling for him to step down. As long as the situation continues to escalate and hatred is spread everywhere, the United States will not be able to stand on the sidelines, but can only continue to increase its support for Israel and even invest more military resources to intervene. Since the new round of the Palestinian-Israeli conflict, the United States has immediately strengthened its military presence in the Mediterranean Sea and sent aircraft carrier squadrons to the platform to deter other Middle Eastern countries from acting rashly. But now we know that even as US aircraft carriers operate in the Mediterranean, their military bases are still attacked by multiple militia groups, and US cargo ships and warships continue to be attacked by the Houthis in Yemen. The United States also specifically warned Iran not to take the opportunity to retaliate against them, and the United States also knows that it is afraid.
But recently all sides have strengthened their military presence in the Red Sea, and the US aircraft carrier is actually in a state of being surrounded by various forces. For example, the Russian Pacific Fleet missile cruiser Varyag sailed into the Mediterranean, and in March it held a joint exercise "Security Link-2024" with Chinese and Iranian naval vessels, and then conducted exercises in the Gulf of Aden to combat piracy and destroy unmanned boats. What is quite surprising is that recently, the 46th batch of escort squadrons of the Chinese Navy, which is carrying out escort missions in the Gulf of Aden, carried out training on the actual use of weapons to test the formation's combat coordination and emergency response capabilities. In the video, the Chinese warship uses its main guns to carry out a concentrated fire attack on the target. At a time of tension in the Middle East, it is necessary for China to show its muscles. Who knows if some countries will be mad and deliberately create "accidental hits" with their own tricks. We will not intervene in the situation in the Middle East, but we must be extremely vigilant and prepared.
