China is the first in the world to commercialize 5.5G, with a network speed 10 times faster than 5G, and the first batch of 100 cities has been announced

On March 28, the observer network learned that China Mobile launched the world's first 5G-A commercial deployment in Hangzhou, announced the list of the first batch of 100 5G-A network commercial cities, and announced that it plans to expand to more than 300 cities across the country within the year to build the world's largest 5G-A commercial network.

5G-A (5G-Advanced, also known as 5.5G in the industry) is a key stage in the development of 5G to 6G. By introducing technologies such as integrated synaesthesia, integrated computing and intelligence, and integrated air-space-ground integration, and at the same time expanding the boundaries of 5G capabilities, it will rejuvenate digital life and help the digital intelligence upgrade of the industry, which is mainly reflected in six aspects:

First, the speed is faster, with a peak rate of up to 10 times that of 5G. Second, the service is better, and customers can obtain hierarchical and hierarchical key business guarantees to meet the communication service needs of specific business forms and specific customer groups. Third, the product is better, accelerating real-time 3D rendering, game content loading, and cloud collaboration, greatly improving the functions and experience of 5G new calls, cloud phones, cloud computers, and other products. Fourth, the integration of synaesthesia promotes the communication network from a single data transmission to a comprehensive multi-dimensional perception, and efficiently meets the business needs of customers in all scenarios of water, land and air. Fifth, it is more widely connected, integrates new passive IoT networking technology, and realizes the transformation from single-point communication to "ultra-large-distance, ultra-large-scale passive IoT" to meet the needs of customers for efficient management of modern assets. Sixth, the control is more stable, and the deterministic network ensures the high reliability and low latency of key data transmission, so as to meet the extreme network needs of customers for precise control and collaborative operation.

China Mobile revealed that it will take the lead in the industry to carry out 5G-A new technology trials, launch the world's largest 5G-A commercial network deployment in more than 300 cities within the year, and plan to promote the launch of more than 20 5G-A terminals in the industrial chain during the year, and develop more than 20 million 5G-A end users. OPPO revealed that the Find X7 series, which integrates OPPO's super signal engineering technology, has become the industry's first 5.5G mobile phone, officially entering the era of 10 Gigabit network speed.

At Mobile World Congress (MWC 2024) in February this year, 5G-A was at the heart of the conversation.

At the conference, Huawei showcased a full range of 5.5G product solutions for all scenarios, including 5G-A, F5G-A, Net5.5G, etc., and successively released three new products such as the communication model, the 5.5G intelligent core network solution, and the F5G-A all-optical target network for operators. Expand new products of 5G low-altitude and Starlink, as well as a series of products that integrate communication and computing power.

Some communication industry experts have told the observer network that from 2G to 3G there are GPRS and EDGE as a transition, and from 3G to 4G there are HSPA and HSPA+ as a transition, so there will also be a transition between 5G and 6G 5G-A. "The development of 5.5G networks by operators is not to dismantle the original base stations and rebuild the base stations, but to upgrade the technology on the original 5G base stations, which will not cause the problem of duplicate investment. ”

In order to promote the development of the 5G-A industry ecosystem, China Mobile has established the 5G-A Innovation Industry Alliance and the Glasses-Free 3D Industry Alliance with a number of industry partners, and has released various glasses-free 3D terminal products such as mobile phones, tablets, vehicle screens, notebooks, and monitors, as well as a number of achievements in content applications, technology platforms, and ecological capabilities.

Gao Tongqing, deputy general manager of China Mobile, put forward three proposals: First, jointly do a good job in 5G-A technology innovation and occupy the "commanding heights" of technology. The second is to jointly promote the maturity of the 5G-A industry chain and sound the "battle drum" of collaboration. Third, KONE is innovating a new 5G-A commercial model and pressing the "acceleration button" for development.

5G-A industry use cases have also begun to emerge. In Zhejiang, 5G-A synaesthesia is used in the inspection and law enforcement of the Qiantang River waters, and ensures the safe navigation of ships at night, fog, rain and snow through applications such as multi-target vessel trajectory perception, real-time warning of electronic fence in no-navigation area, and ship perception in low visibility environment. In Guangdong, China Mobile has joined hands with Fengyi to accurately identify the position, speed and trajectory of drones based on the integration of synaesthesia, innovate new low-altitude logistics services, and improve the efficiency of scenarios such as express delivery and medical material distribution. In Hubei, China Mobile provided a 5G deterministic network industry solution for Midea's factory, which significantly improved the end-to-end 5G network service capabilities, realized the wireless and stable collaborative operation of robots and AGVs (automated guided vehicles), effectively reduced O&M costs and improved production efficiency.
