Bizhou Village Dragon Lantern Parade

At the scene of the dragon lantern parade, people move with the dragon, and the colorful Bizhou lanterns and ancient buildings such as Wenchang Pavilion, Tianhou Temple, and Yonglong Bridge are reflected in the scene. Everywhere the procession went, every household lit relaxing incense, firecrackers rang out, and ceremonial flowers bloomed, attracting many villagers and tourists to watch.

"Bizhou lanterns are both ornamental and cultural, I specially came to the scene to watch, not only can feel the strong flavor of the New Year, but also appreciate the charm of Liancheng's traditional folk culture. Tourist Chi Linlin said happily.

Traveling lanterns are a major feature of Bizhou folk culture, which completely retains the exquisite skills and travel regulations of lantern making in the Southern Song Dynasty, and is a folk activity that has been passed down from the Southern Song Dynasty after the Shangshu "Wu Liulang Gong" moved south to Bizhou to open the foundation, and has a history of more than 800 years. Bizhou lanterns are also quite distinctive, using pure handmade "10,000 eyebrows", upper, middle and lower three layers, left and right sides, a version of the lantern as many as more than 20 lights.

Bizhou Village Dragon Lantern Parade

In order to better inherit and protect this intangible cultural heritage, Bizhou Village holds a "lantern tour" activity on the 14th and 15th of the first lunar month and the first and second days of February every year. In 2018, this tradition was included in the sixth batch of representative items of municipal intangible cultural heritage in Longyan City. Since 2016, Bizhou Village has successfully held four Lantern Cultural Festivals, with a variety of activities, including You Gongtai, Spring Ploughing, Lion Dance, Songfu Catwalk, etc., attracting guests from all over the world.
