In the 7th year of settling in Singapore, let's talk about Uncle Fa's observations and experiences

Seven years ago, when I first set foot in this small country, known as the "Lion City", my heart was full of anticipation and curiosity. As a Frenchman, I am curious about this bustling city in Asia, but also with a hint of apprehension about the unknown. However, seven years have passed, and now I have made my home in this small but vibrant island nation. In this article, I would like to share what I have seen and heard in Singapore, as well as what I have experienced and felt during this time.

The first time I set foot on Singapore, I was fascinated by its unique cityscape. High-rise buildings, modern buildings and tree-lined streets complement each other, forming a unique picture of the city. During my first year in Singapore, I spent a lot of time exploring every corner of the city. I visited Gardens by the Bay and was blown away by the unique landscapes and modern architecture, I tasted food from different countries, experienced Singapore's food culture, and gained insight into the lifestyle and values of Singaporeans. In the process, I gradually integrated into the city and saw it as my second home.

However, living in Singapore is not always smooth sailing. In my second year of settling down, I encountered some challenges. The language barrier became a major problem in my life, and I found that I was not good at English, let alone the local Malay, Mandarin or Tamil. However, instead of being discouraged, I studied hard and gradually improved my language skills. I was able to learn more languages and make a lot of friends through interacting with the locals, which was very gratifying.

In my third year in Singapore, I decided to delve deeper into the country's culture and history. I visited the National Museum of Singapore to learn about the country's evolution from a colony to an independent state, as well as its place and influence in the world. I also went to the Singapore Botanic Gardens to appreciate the city's green scenery and abundant plant resources. Through these experiences, I have gained a better understanding of Singapore's multiculturalism and tolerance, and I have become more passionate about the country.

Over the next few years, I began to turn my attention to work and life. I found a satisfying job in Singapore and built my social circle. I enjoyed a stable life in this country and also felt the unique charm of this city. However, as time went on, I began to think about deeper issues. I started to pay attention to some of the issues in Singaporean society, such as the ageing population, housing problems and social inequality. I also began to think about my role and responsibilities in this society, hoping to make some contribution to the development and progress of this country.

I am now in my seventh year of settling in Singapore. Looking back on this experience, I am filled with emotion. In this unique country, I have experienced countless ups and downs, but also harvested countless joys. I have witnessed the development and changes of this city, and I have also experienced the tolerance and progress of this country. I love this country deeply and am deeply grateful for all that it has given me.

Perhaps, life is a journey of constant pursuit and exploration. During my seven years in Singapore, I have gained a lot of valuable experience and insights, and I have made many lovely friends and partners. I believe that in the days to come, I will continue to write my own story on this land and continue to grow and progress with this country.

In the land of Singapore, every corner is full of stories and legends. Perhaps, on a lively evening, you will meet a French uncle on Orchard Road and talk about life and dreams in a small bar, or on an early morning, you will meet a French uncle on the lawn of Marina Bay Park and enjoy the sunrise and sea breeze with him, or on a rainy afternoon, you will meet a French uncle at a café in the Botanic Gardens, taste traditional Singaporean cuisine, and chat about stories and legends from afar.

No matter where I am or how time passes, I am confident that this time in Singapore will become the most precious memory of my life and will be etched in my heart forever.
