Today (May 15), Singapore ushered in its fourth prime minister, and at 8 pm, Lawrence Wong's swearing-in ceremony was held at the Presidential Palace.
Following President Tharman Thamander's speech, Lawrence Wong was sworn in as Singapore's fourth Prime Minister.
The new Cabinet was also sworn in. Minister of Trade and Industry Gan Kim Yong was appointed as Deputy Prime Minister, while Heng Swee Keat remained as Deputy Prime Minister. Lee Hsien Loong, who stepped down as prime minister, was appointed Senior Minister of State after the official handover of the reinforce. Teo Chee Hean remained as Senior Minister and Coordinating Minister for National Security. Subsequently, other ministers, ministers of state and senior ministers of state have also been sworn in.
After taking the oath, the new Prime Minister Lawrence Wong delivered his inaugural speech in English, Malay and Chinese.
Speaking in English, he said: "I am deeply honoured to be sworn in as Prime Minister of Singapore. ”
"I hope to have your support and trust. My team and I will do everything we can to serve you and the country. ”
He then spoke in Malay, pledging to reach out to the grassroots to get close to the people, understand their voices and work to improve their quality of life. He was deeply honored and humbled to serve as Prime Minister, and stressed that he would do his best to serve the people.
In his Chinese speech, he said he was honoured to succeed Lee Hsien Loong as Prime Minister and continue to serve the people in his new capacity. He promised to do everything he could to take on the responsibility.
He thanked outgoing Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong for his contribution to the country. Since his own political career, Lee Hsien Loong has been like a mentor, giving careful guidance; As a cabinet colleague, Lee Hsien Loong has also continued to support and encourage him. I would like to thank Lee Hsien Loong for agreeing to remain in the Cabinet and providing him and his team with valuable advice and perspectives.
Mr Wong said he was Singapore's first post-independence prime minister, and that most of his colleagues in the fourth-generation leadership team were like him. His team's leadership style will be different from his predecessor's, and this leadership transition will not only be a team change, but also a generational change.
