Journey to 10 European Countries (15): A Travelogue in Innsbruck, Austria

author:Zhao Min V

We took a tourist bus from Vaduz, the capital of the Principality of Liechtenstein, to Innsbruck, a city in western Austria, a 180-kilometer journey.

Vienna, the capital of Austria, is classified as a tourist route in Eastern Europe, and we went west to Innsbruck, one of the three major tourist destinations in Austria, along with Vienna and Salzburg.

Innsbruck is nestled in the midst of the Alpine mountains, and the Inn River flows through the city with its snowy waters. Innsbruck, which means bridge over the Inn River, was a necessary route for trade from Germany to Italy and a hub for Austria from west to east.

The original medieval appearance of Innsbruck is still preserved, with vaulted aisles, semi-circular raised roofs, and buildings in the late Gothic and Renaissance styles. In the center of the city, on Duke's Strasse Friedrich, there is a luxurious two-story building built in 1500, 16 meters wide, with a roof 3.7 meters high alone, and is inlaid with 2,657 gilded copper tiles. The Dome of the Dome is the symbol of Innsbruck, a late Gothic style building built to commemorate the engagement of Maximilian I. Back in the day, at dusk, standing on the balcony to watch the games and theatrical performances in the square, the sunset reflected on the golden roof, shining brightly...... What kind of splendor is this?

Austria was one of the great powers of Europe from the Middle Ages until the end of World War I, and was the seat of the Habsburg dynasty that ruled Central Europe for 650 years. The German Confederation led by Austria was defeated in the Franco-Prussian War and forced to dissolve, and the dualist Austro-Hungarian Empire collapsed after its defeat in World War I. The Republic of Austria, founded in 1918, was annexed by Nazi Germany in 1938 and entered the war as part of Germany in World War II. After the surrender of Germany, the Soviet, American, British, and French armies occupied Austria, and the whole territory was divided into four occupation zones. In May 1955, the four countries signed a treaty with Austria declaring respect for Austria's sovereignty and independence, and in October 1955 all the occupying forces were withdrawn. On October 26 of the same year, the Austrian National Assembly passed the law of permanent neutrality, declaring that it would not participate in any military alliance and would not allow the establishment of foreign military bases on its territory. What kind of sobering history is this?

Austria is one of the richest countries in the world today, ranking 19th in the world in 2011 on its Human Development Index.

Austria has also left a beautiful fairy tale to the world - Princess Sissi. Today, we can still see in the movie, in addition to the romantic love story of Sissi and Franz, the film also shows a lot of Austria's beautiful lakes and mountains, and its prosperity in the mid-19th century.

The vivid, beautiful and straightforward Princess Sissi has made almost all generations of men and women in the world fall in love with her. The fairytale Princess Sissi belongs only to movies. The real Sissi is a legend, and her life is anything but a fairy tale. "Remember, child, when you feel sorrow and trouble, come here and look at nature with an open mind. You can find comfort and strength in every tree, every flower, every living thing...... "I think that whether it is Princess Sissi in real life or in the movie, her lovely place is the same - that kind of affinity close to the crowd, her grassy simplicity and liveliness.

We walked around Dukesstrasse Friedrichstrasse in the heart of Innsbruck, visited the Golden Dome House, and the world-famous Swarovski crystal shop. In the end, I stupidly held the Swarovski black swan crystal necklace bag in both hands and photographed "Come here" in front of the Golden Dome House~~
