According to Thai media news, on January 13, the National Tourism Administration of Thailand reported that with the help of the 24-hour open service and visa-free policy of Chiang Mai Airport, the number of foreign tourists coming to the local area for tourism has gradually increased, especially from major markets.
At the same time, Chiang Mai has added about 100 weekly flights, including flights from Shanghai and Chongqing in China (mainland), flights from Taipei, Taiwan, flights from Kansai International Airport in Japan, and flights from New Delhi and Mumbai in India. In addition, there are currently 109,440 seats on direct international flights to Chiang Mai, including flights from China, Malaysia, Laos, Myanmar, South Korea, Japan and other countries and regions.
According to sources, at present, the tourism board mainly promotes Chiang Mai's tourism industry through three projects, including:
1. The establishment of 2 new tourism routes, namely the Chiang Mai Festival Tour and the Chiang Mai "I Care" Tour Route, which aims to create a travel experience and create a sustainable learning tour;
2. Encourage year-round tourism and make Chiang Mai a city of festivals by organizing traditional festivals;
3. Promote Chiang Mai as a destination city for working tourism and digital nomads.
In addition, the news also said that from January to November 2023, Chiang Mai received a total of 9.4 million tourists, a year-on-year increase of 24%, and generated a cumulative revenue of more than 75.11 billion baht.
