There is no way back for North Korea:
On January 5, Yonhap News Agency said that the Korean People's Army fired more than 200 artillery shells into the western seas, and on January 6, North Korea fired more than 60 rounds of coastal artillery.
The DPRK's top brass said on the 7th that in the event of any provocation, the DPRK military would immediately carry out a baptism of artillery.
At the same time, the United States, Japan, and the ROK held an emergency meeting in Washington to jointly study how to deal with the nuclear and missile crisis in the DPRK.
1. South Korea's policy toward the DPRK has undergone tremendous changes
The primary reason for the serious deterioration of the situation on the Korean Peninsula is that South Korean President Yoon Suk-yeol has made a 180-degree foreign policy turn, making strengthening the alliance between the United States, Japan, and South Korea the primary direction of diplomacy.
South Korea has completely tied itself to the chariot of the United States, first reconciling Japan, even beautifying Japan's aggression during World War II, and then worsening relations with North Korea, China, and Russia.
The ROK government has two aims: First, it will use the "US-ROK Mutual Defense Treaty" to strengthen its sense of security, draw Japan in, and rely on the strong military strength of the United States, Japan, and South Korea to directly put pressure on the DPRK and indirectly on China and Russia.
The second is to divert domestic contradictions; since China's great rise, the comprehensive strength of the three major powers in East Asia has shown a huge gap in the ladder, and it continues to expand.
China's economic strength is three times that of Japan, and Japan's economic strength is three times that of South Korea, which has dealt a serious blow to South Korea's national self-confidence, and the South Korean people have gradually lost confidence in the government.
South Korea's dissatisfaction with its position in East Asia, coupled with the impact of its domestic economic downturn and young people's employment, blames China and other neighbors for this dissatisfaction, and points the finger at North Korea, which they believe has greatly limited South Korea's economic and military strength, and always wants to find a step and an excuse for itself.
South Korea's dissatisfaction with Russia is to some extent determined by the attitude of the United States and the West towards Russia, and after the start of the Russian-Ukrainian war, South Korea also had to express its attitude.
South Korea will either side with Russia or Ukraine, and if it chooses Ukraine, it will have to deteriorate its relations with Russia, and this is the price that South Korea must pay.
Provocations against China and Russia come at a huge cost, in concrete terms, in the form of deteriorating relations with North Korea, as has always been the case in history.
Two: North Korea has no way back
In the face of military oppression by the United States, Japan, and South Korea, the DPRK is extremely insecure, and when it seriously lacks strategic depth, the DPRK can only break the comprehensive blockade of the United States, Japan, and the ROK through active military defense.
The total strength of the ROK army, navy, and air force has reached 500,000, and the army has basically realized mechanization, with three main army groups under its jurisdiction, equipped with more than 2,000 tanks of various types and more than 5,000 artillery pieces.
The ROK Navy is equipped with more than 100 combat ships, including three King Sejong-class Aegis destroyers and two Dokdo-class amphibious assault ships, and continues to be equipped with new combat ships.
The South Korean Air Force has installed more than 40 F-35 stealth fighters and more than 200 F-15K heavy fighters, and its air power in East Asia is second only to the Chinese Air Force and the Japanese Air Self-Defense Force.
This military power has given South Korea the ambition of being a first-class power, and the U.S. military has maintained a strong air and land force in South Korea in order to control the Korean Peninsula and then put pressure on North and China.
The U.S. military deployed 1 Army Group and 1 Main Fighter Wing on the Korean Peninsula, where the 8th Army has remained since its participation in the Korean War.
The U.S. Navy and the ROK Navy have completed a complete blockade of the DPRK and have the capability to carry out strategic encirclement of the Korean People's Army, and the US Air Force and the ROK Air Force have air supremacy on the Korean Peninsula and have the ability to attack in battles, which makes the Korean People's Army very passive.
The DPRK is backed by China, which is the greatest geographical advantage of the DPRK, and it can only rely on the strategic support of China and Russia to carry out active defense; because the DPRK has been blockaded by the United States for a long time, it cannot maintain a modern armed force, and can only stabilize the situation on the peninsula by focusing on the development of "trump cards."
The Korean People's Army (KPA) is mainly equipped with nuclear missiles, conventional missiles of various ranges, long-range rocket artillery and other weapons and equipment to build asymmetric combat capabilities and enhance its ability to deter war.
If the United States and the ROK dare to act rashly, the Korean People's Army will use more than 1,000 howitzers, rocket artillery, and coastal artillery deployed near the "38th parallel" to cover South Korea's Seoul and important military targets.
Three: What should China do?
Foreign Ministry spokesman Wang Wenbin said that China is paying close attention to the situation on the Korean Peninsula and that China has two demands: one is peace and stability on the peninsula, and the other is to resolve the issue through dialogue and consultation.
The situation on the Korean Peninsula has a bearing on China's national security, and we absolutely will not allow the United States and the ROK to use force on the Korean Peninsula, and the military provocations of the United States and the ROK must not go overboard.
The strong strength of the Chinese military has supported China's right to speak, and neither the United States nor South Korea dares to take China's warnings as a deaf ear.
The army, navy, and air force units of the People's Liberation Army (PLA) Northern Theater are watching the situation on the Korean Peninsula with close attention, and the military and national prestige of the War to Resist US Aggression and Aid Korea cannot be ignored by any opponent. China's bottom line is eight words: absolute peace on the Korean Peninsula!
