After the wild grasses in the mountains and forests are artificially "domesticated", they are served on the table of high-end hotels and exported to the vast market...... In Huangping County, the once little-known wild vegetables have been transformed, not only doubling in value, but also becoming an industry that enriches the people and becomes popular in the market.
Recently, the reporter saw in the wild vegetable base of Jiuzhou Town, Huangping County, that several villagers were busy removing weeds in the constant temperature greenhouse to provide a good environment for the growth of vegetables in winter.

"Our base is planted in different seasons, and in winter, we mainly grow cabbage and rich vegetables, which have a good market and high income, and can also drive the villagers to increase their income. Shi Xiaolan, general manager of the base, told reporters.
The core area of Huangping County wild vegetable base is 2,200 acres, with 30,000 square meters of greenhouses, which is one of the largest concentrated and continuous planting areas of wild vegetables in our province, and the first industry-university-research base in the province that integrates wild vegetable seedling breeding, cultivation and product research and development, production and sales, mainly planting more than 10 varieties of wild vegetables such as ice cabbage, quinoa, heart cabbage, rich cabbage, purple back geranium, mango cabbage, etc.

In order to promote the large-scale and industrialized development of wild vegetables, in 2019, the Huangping County Party Committee and the county government introduced Qiandongnan Liuyuan Fresh Green Catering Management Service Co., Ltd. to develop wild vegetable planting in the way of "party building + company + base + farmer".
From the mountains to the fields, it is not easy to improve the yield and quality of wild vegetables with their own "wildness". In this regard, Huang Ping also established technical guidance and technical research cooperation with relevant experts in the province, and carried out close cooperation in the collection of wild vegetable germplasm resources, the selection and breeding of excellent strains, and the research of rapid seedling propagation technology.

From 2022 to 2023, Huangping County will allocate 6.6 million yuan from the central rural revitalization bridging fund for the development of wild vegetables, newly develop more than 10,000 acres of wild vegetables, and start the construction of wild vegetable deep processing projects, packaging and creating products such as sauerkraut and wild vegetables, wild vegetable noodles, dehydrated wild vegetables, and miscellaneous grains and wild vegetables.
Shi Xiaolan introduced that the wild vegetables grown in the base are rich in minerals and trace elements such as calcium, sodium, potassium, and carotene. In recent years, the diversity and selectivity of wild vegetables in the base have been greatly improved, and the products are sold to medium and high-end hotels and chain distribution centers in Beijing, Shanghai, Shenzhen, Chongqing, Guiyang, Kaili and other places, and the supply exceeds demand.
Large-scale planting of wild vegetables, although the initial investment is large, but the technical requirements are not high, ordinary farmers can plant after simple training. Now, on the one hand, the base drives the villagers to plant wild vegetables, and on the other hand, it also attracts the villagers to work in the base. "There are as few as 20 people a day, and more than 100 people as many as they work. Shi Xiaolan said.

In the future, Huangping County plans to develop more than 50,000 acres of wild vegetable planting, with an annual output of 100,000 tons of commercial wild vegetables and an output value of more than 16,000 yuan per mu. It is estimated that by 2025, 15 wild vegetable deep processing factories will be established, and 300,000 acres of wild vegetable planting will be driven by radiation.
