Is the largest inland lake in the world the Caspian Sea or the Black Sea?
As we all know, the Caspian Sea covers an area of 371,000 square kilometers, while the Black Sea covers an area of 436,400 square kilometers, both of which are inland saltwater lakes, but the Black Sea is called the "land sea".
When we hear the term "Black Sea", we often think of it as a strong source of horror, could it be that the Black Sea is really black? Why do people say that the Black Sea is so terrifying when they mention it?
1. The Black Sea
The Black Sea, with a maximum water depth of 2,206 meters, is one of the deepest oceans in the world, and the bottom of the Black Sea is in perpetual darkness and lacks light, and it is this dark environment that adds to the mysterious and terrifying atmosphere of the Black Sea.
It is a large and oxygen-deficient marine system, and the Institute of Marine Geology has been monitoring the water quality of the Black Sea, and through multiple monitoring, it has been found that the concentration of "hydrogen sulfide" in the Black Sea is high, and according to statistics, about 90% of the Black Sea is filled with hydrogen sulfide.
As we all know, "hydrogen sulfide" is a toxic gas that can rise to the surface of the sea through the water column and pose a threat to ships and marine life, and this substance is still colorless, and once it comes into contact with it, it will cause a threat to life.
In addition, the bottom of the Black Sea is extremely hypoxic, and even many marine organisms cannot survive in this environment, and most of them are plankton and microorganisms that survive, which makes the dead silence of the seabed further expand the dangerous and terrifying atmosphere.
The Black Sea is a double-layered sea, with low salinity in the surface and high salinity in the deep sea, according to relevant data, the salinity of the seawater in the Black Sea is very small, only half of the salinity of the world's major oceans.
This is due to the fact that the salinity of the sea water in the Mediterranean Sea flows from the lower layer of the strait into the Black Sea, resulting in an increase in the salinity of the deep seawater, forming a unique "double sea".
The surface waters of the Black Sea are not only less salinous and have good light conditions, but are more suitable for marine life than deep waters, so the number of marine life in the surface of the Black Sea is slightly larger.
However, at the junction of two layers of water, life is almost extinct, why is that? but such a dangerous place has attracted the interest of many explorers throughout the ages, and many good sailors have wanted to conquer this sea.
Legend has it that there are also some mysterious "sea monsters" in the Black Sea, such as giant octopuses and sea snakes, and according to local elders, many crew members have died here, and there are countless shipwrecks.
And the naming of the Black Sea makes people have a psychological suggestion, making people afraid of this sea area, although the water of the Black Sea is transparent in nature, it is indeed a veritable "black" sea, exuding an indescribable horror.
According to scientists' calculations, the Black Sea is the product of melting glaciers and climate change, and the Black Sea, which exists to this day, has a history of millions of years, and it carries countless lives and stories, and is one of the oldest seas on the planet.
2. The legend of the Black Sea

No one could have imagined that such a legendary place, a few decades ago, would be almost destroyed by our own hands, and human agriculture, urbanization and industrialization had a serious impact on the water quality and ecosystem of the Black Sea.
3. The Black Sea under the influence of human activities
In the 70s and 80s of the last century, a large number of industrial and agricultural activities in some coastal countries led to a large amount of waste and pollutants entering the Black Sea, leading to the gradual deterioration of their ecological environment.
At that time, the water quality of the Black Sea had deteriorated, with increasing turbidity and salinity, which led to a massive reduction in underwater vegetation, the collapse of seabed ecosystems, and the increasing levels of hydrogen sulfide to an uncontrollable level.
At the same time, the land and rivers around the Black Sea have also been seriously polluted, and the local cultivation industry and water quality have been seriously affected, which greatly threatens the dietary health and life safety of nearby residents.
The deterioration of the ecological environment of the Black Sea has also had a serious impact on the lives of local residents, who used to be one of the main fishery resources of the residents, but due to the decline in water quality, the fishery production has been greatly reduced, resulting in a great threat to the livelihood of local residents.
The reason why the Black Sea attracts so many tourists is that it offers a wide variety of water activities, such as surfing, sailing, diving, and fishing, which attract tourists who love water sports and adventure.
Absorbing a certain amount of hydrogen sulfide is beneficial to the skin, but at too high a concentration it can cause poisoning, and due to the continuous increase in hydrogen sulfide content, the number of tourists has dropped sharply, and the income of tourism has also declined.
Even more worrying is that if hydrogen sulfide explodes in the Black Sea, its explosive force is like that of a large meteorite that once fell on the earth, triggering the famous extinction of the dinosaurs.
Even if it is not as severe, the accumulation of gases such as methane and hydrogen sulfide in seafloor sediments, if released on a large scale, could trigger submarine landslides and tsunamis, with serious consequences for residents in surrounding areas.
Low concentrations of hydrogen sulfide can cause symptoms such as headaches, nausea, vomiting and eye irritation, while high concentrations of hydrogen sulfide can cause serious consequences such as breathing difficulties, coma and even death, so this is why the Black Sea is called "the most terrifying ocean in the world", it is like a time bomb that can explode at any time.
4. Protecting the ecological environment of the Black Sea
In order to improve the ecological environment of the Black Sea, the local government and international organizations have taken a series of measures to strengthen wastewater treatment and waste management to reduce pollution of the Black Sea water quality, establish stricter environmental regulations and standards, and ensure that enterprises and residents comply with the regulations in terms of wastewater discharge and waste disposal.
