CCTV news client reported on December 22 that after 23 months of construction, the world's largest span of road and rail dual-purpose steel truss arch bridge - Changtai Yangtze River Bridge Tianxingzhou special channel bridge was successfully closed today (22nd), which marks a breakthrough in the construction of Changtai Yangtze River Bridge.

The Tianxingzhou special channel bridge in Helong has a total length of 727 meters, a main span of 388 meters, and a 269-meter-wide Tianxingzhou special channel, which adopts the structural form of a steel truss arch bridge. 40,000 tons of steel were used in the construction, which is close to the total steel consumption of the Bird's Nest at the Beijing Olympic venues. More than 1,200 rods of different lengths and types are used in the whole bridge, and there are as many as 26 rods at the closing mouth to form 14 closing points, each of which needs to achieve millimeter-level docking with high precision requirements.

According to the person in charge of Changtai Bridge of CCCC Second Harbor Bureau, the temperature difference between day and night on the river surface is more than 20 °C, the maximum wind force is 11 degrees, and the bridge swing amplitude is more than 10 cm, which affects the accuracy of bridge construction. We have developed an arch bridge monitoring system and a 30,000-ton adjustment control system, and arranged 518 intelligent sensors to monitor and warn the construction process in real time to ensure that the closing error does not exceed two millimeters at an altitude of more than 120 meters.

The Tianxingzhou Special Waterway Bridge is an important part of the Changtai Yangtze River Bridge with a total length of 10.03 kilometers. Changtai Bridge connects the two cities of Changzhou and Taizhou in Jiangsu Province, and is the world's first cross-river passage integrating expressways, intercity railways and ordinary highways. In order to meet the needs of the special waterway for port and wharf transportation along the line, in addition to the main channel bridge with a main span of 1,208 meters, the bridge has set up special waterway bridges in Taizhou Tianxingzhou and Changzhou Lu'anzhou, respectively, to serve the Yangtze River golden waterway together with the main channel bridge.

The upper layer of Changtai Yangtze River Bridge is set up with a six-lane expressway, and the lower layer is set up with a double-lane railway and a four-lane ordinary road, which is the first "trinity" cross-river bridge on the Yangtze River.

The construction of the Changtai Yangtze River Bridge started in October 2019 and is scheduled to be completed in the first half of 2025. After the opening of traffic, the highway travel time between Changzhou and Taizhou will be shortened to 20 minutes, which is of great significance for promoting the construction of the "Belt and Road" intersection, better serving the integrated development of the Yangtze River Delta and the development strategy of the Yangtze River Economic Belt, and improving the layout of the regional road network.
