According to the importance, population size, habitat location importance and special representativeness of terrestrial wildlife species on the mainland, the first batch of important habitats of terrestrial wildlife are divided into six categories, including the survival and reproduction areas of rare and endangered species and the distribution areas of wildlife clusters, involving 31 provinces, autonomous regions and municipalities, covering the habitats, breeding grounds and migration areas of 565 species of national first- and second-class key protected wild animals, involving 127 species of mammals, 339 species of birds, 62 species of amphibians and reptiles, and 37 species of insects.
According to the progress of the work of experts organized by the National Forestry and Grassland Administration, the next step will be to further strengthen the investigation, monitoring and evaluation of areas that have continuously improved habitat conditions but have not been included in the list, and those that meet the relevant conditions will be included in the list one after another.
In recent years, the mainland has incorporated a large number of wildlife habitats into the scope of protection by building a nature reserve system with national parks as the main body, nature reserves as the basis, and various nature parks as supplements, effectively maintaining the safety of wildlife habitats and promoting their continuous optimization, which has played a huge role in saving rare and endangered wild animals and maintaining the development of wild animal populations.
Marine Protected Areas: Three sites are classified as good
By the end of 2020, there were 14 national marine nature reserves on the mainland, with a total area of about 394,000 hectares. There are 67 national marine parks, with a total area of about 737,000 hectares.
In 2020, the ecological protection status of four national marine nature reserves was monitored, among which the ecological protection status of three protected areas was good, namely the coastal wetland of the Yalu River estuary in Liaoning, the gold coast of Changli in Hebei Province and the Nanmo Islands in Zhejiang, and the ecological protection status of the shell embankment island and wetland national nature reserve in Binzhou was fair.
Gradually expand to ecological status monitoring and environmental risk early warning
According to the requirements of the "Outline of the Ecological Environment Monitoring Plan (2020-2035)", from 2020 to 2035, environmental monitoring will gradually expand to ecological status monitoring and environmental risk early warning on the basis of comprehensively deepening the monitoring of environmental quality and pollution sources, and build a comprehensive assessment system for ecological and environmental conditions. The monitoring indicators have been expanded from conventional physical and chemical indicators to toxic and harmful substances, biological and ecological indicators, and from concentration monitoring and flux monitoring to the analysis of the causal mechanism. The monitoring points have changed from homogenization and large-scale expansion to differentiated and comprehensive layout; The field of monitoring has expanded from land to sea, from ground to underground, from water to shore, from urban to rural, from national to global; The monitoring methods have developed from traditional manual monitoring to the integration of heaven and earth, automatic intelligence, scientific refinement, and integrated linkage. The monitoring business has expanded from current situation monitoring to prediction, forecasting and risk assessment, and from environmental quality assessment to ecological health assessment.
Wang Fang, a researcher at Fudan University's School of Life Sciences, said that to ensure that there is no negative impact on the survival and safety of wild animals and people, keep a safe distance, do not harm, do not feed, and do not approach, wild animals and ecological spaces can add more complete functions and better resilience to the urban ecosystem.
Dr. Wu Xiaoyang, a researcher in wildlife ecology and conservation, said that wildlife conservation is an important part of the construction of ecological civilization and an important guarantee for maintaining biodiversity and ecological balance.
