The Manas Wetland in Changji Prefecture, Xinjiang, covers an area of about 170,000 mu, and there are more than 200 species of birds living in this vast wetland, including 11 species of national first-class protected animals. In late autumn, the Manas wetlands are crisscrossed by yellowing reeds and rippling lakes.
At present, the birds in the Manas wetland are mainly spring migratory birds, including geese and cormorants. They reproduce in May, and in mid-November, they take their newborn migratory birds over the Tien Shan Mountains and fly to the warmer south for the winter. In a little while, the migratory birds that come here for the winter will arrive one after another. In order to provide them with a safe and comfortable living environment, the staff of the wetland have stepped up patrols.
Three times a day, crews patrol the wetlands, and in autumn, they focus on fire prevention and observing the habitat of migratory birds.
Chai Shiyuan, head of the wetland protection section of Xinjiang Manas National Wetland Park Administration: "In the process of monitoring, we first use a telescope to observe the surrounding situation, and when we need to confirm it when we can't see clearly, we will use drones to fly to us for further observation."
During the patrol, the reporter found that the first batch of swans had flown to the Manas wetland, indicating that the swan army was coming. Now the rangers have a very important job to do - cutting the reeds. According to the staff, on the one hand, according to the observation of previous years, swans like to inhabit and forage in this area, because the water in this area is living water, which is not easy to freeze in winter, and there is more food supply; On the other hand, by cutting these reeds, the swans have a wider field of vision and can better protect themselves from natural predators.
