Most people may not know that after the founding of the People's Republic of China, it was not until the return of Macao in 1999 that the administrative divisions of our country were stabilized into the 34 provincial-level administrative regions today.
On the map of China, several provinces have been either abolished or annexed, disappearing into history.
Today, I will take you to know 5 of the provinces that have "disappeared".
NO.1 Xikang Province
-Abolished in 1955-
From its establishment in 1939 to its official abolition in September 1955, Xikang existed for only 16 years and 9 months in history.
Xikang belongs to the plateau area, located between Sichuan and Tibet, is inhabited by ethnic minorities mainly Tibetans, and is also an important place for Sino-Tibetan cultural exchanges.
Xikang is a province cobbled together from the "scraps" of major topographic regions, with the western edge of the Sichuan Basin in the east, the northern part of the Hengduan Mountains in the middle, and the eastern end of the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau in the west.
Although Xikang is not a complete topographic area, the five Zhejiang provinces today are not as large as her, and its area is 535,000 square kilometers.

The mountains, valleys, plains and large rivers in Xikang are distributed in layers, with beautiful scenery and simple folk customs, which can be called a paradise on earth.
Now the famous Kangding, Lugu Lake, Daocheng Yaden, Ya'an, Nyingchi, Zizhu Temple, etc. were once affiliated to Xikang.

N0.2 Rehe Province
-Abolished in 1955-
Rehe Province, carved out in February 1914 and abolished on 29 July 1955.
It is concentrated in the Liao River Valley, with jurisdiction over 2 cities of Chengde and Chifeng, 16 counties including Lingyuan and Pingyuan, and 4 banners including Karaqin Right Banner and Ao Han Banner.
The name "Hot River" starts from the hot springs of Chengde Mountain Resort, and the hot spring water flows into the local Wulie River, which does not freeze in the harsh winter and steames, hence the name "Hot River".

Today, the Rehe River has disappeared from the map, but the beautiful scenery left behind is always visited again and again.
Summer resort, Bashang grassland, Jinshanling Great Wall, Ulan Butong... I don't know how many people have become "must go in this life".

N0.3 Plains Province

Pingyuan Province, a province dedicated to the management of the Yellow River, was established on August 20, 1949, abolished on November 30, 1952, and existed only for about three years and three months from its formal establishment to its final abolition.
The geographical location of Pingyuan Province can be roughly described as north of the Yellow River, south of the Zhanghe River, east of the Taihang Mountains, and west of the Grand Canal. Today, Xinxiang, Anyang, Puyang, Jiaozuo, Jiyuan in Henan Province and Liaocheng and Heze in Shandong Province were once under the jurisdiction of Pingyuan Province.

If it had not been abolished, the Plains Province would definitely be a major tourist province. Landscape representatives, Xinxiang's Taihang Mountain does not need to be mentioned, humanistic representatives, Yue Fei Temple, Yin Wu Museum, Lingquan Temple Grottoes, Baiyun Temple, etc. are also counted as the best.

Songjiang Province, established in August 1945, was merged into Heilongjiang Province in June 1954.
In history, the northeast has changed very frequently, and there are many sayings such as 4 provinces, 6 provinces, 7 provinces, and 9 provinces in the northeast.
Songjiang Province, named after the Songhua River in the territory, is bordered by the Songliao Plain in the north, the Tumen River Plain in the southeast, the Mudanjiang Valley Plain in the middle, and the Changbai Mountains running through the entire province.

N0.5 Chahar Province

Chahar Province, an old provincial administrative region of China, was established in 1912 and abolished and merged into Hebei and Shanxi Provinces in 1952.
Chahar's jurisdiction is basically bounded by the Great Wall, with jurisdiction over 3 cities of Zhangjiakou, Datong and Xuanhua and 3 special districts of Yanbei, Chanan, and Chabei, with a total of 32 counties.
Chahar is one of the main battlefields of the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and the War of Liberation, and the most famous is the formation of the Chahar People's Anti-Japanese Alliance Army by General Feng Yuxiang, General Ji Hongchang, General Fang Zhenwu and other anti-Japanese heroes.
Located in Zhangbei County, the grassland sky road, with a total length of about 132 kilometers, connects wildflower meadows, forest ravines, cattle and sheep terraces and other changeable landscapes, can be described as a step-by-step scene, is one of the ten most beautiful highways in China, and is loved by many self-driving enthusiasts.
