Strange and cute and loving
In this poetic season, Susan Fang, one of China's most promising emerging designers, brings us a feast for the eyes. Her Fall/Winter 2023-2024 collection is inspired by Chilean writer Enrique Barrios' 1986 children's book Ami, a child of the stars, and explores this fantastical world together.
The collection is filled with pastel frilled pieces, meticulously woven details, multi-coloured prairie dresses and hand-crocheted pearly decorative dresses. Susan also custom-made a lace fabric decorated with leaf grass and smiley face motifs, and she hopes that those wearing it will feel the power of blessing.
In this fantasy world, pajamas are transformed into elegant suits with Peter Pan motifs complemented by embroidered trims; Eco-friendly ideas run through the continuity, including 3D printed accessories and shoe laces woven from second-hand fabric. To create a wide variety of new silhouettes, the designer cleverly used yarn, ribbons and wool leftover from last season, turning them into crystal-embellished strips.
Made from biodegradable raw materials, these futuristic yet vibrant structures include wings, petticoats and rose-scented mop dresses. Her mother also continued to assist in the creation of costumes, adding warmth to this fantasy world.
