I used to be an employee of a Fortune 500 foreign company, but unfortunately lost my job in middle age.

I learned that more than a month has passed since I was laid off, and I wanted to document this experience. I joined Nokia in September 2021, a large foreign company that has worked for exactly two years, and I am 35 years old this year. At the end of last year and the beginning of this year, there were news of layoffs, but I thought I had the technology, experience, and was engaged in the research and development of 5G core products, and I thought I would not be laid off. However, on a Tuesday in July this year, I suddenly received an invitation to a meeting from my manager and was told that I had to attend. I began to feel uneasy in my heart. The next day, I attended a meeting chaired by the manager and people from the HR department. The manager began with some high-sounding remarks, saying that the global economic situation was sluggish and the company was facing challenges, so it needed to adjust positions and cut some jobs. Unfortunately, I am also among them.

Then the HR staff started talking about my personal performance and contribution to the company, and praising my abilities and performance. But I am puzzled why such an evaluation still cannot avoid the fate of layoffs.

Next, the HR department introduced the process of leaving the company and the compensation plan. Under the agreement, I will receive compensation of n plus 3, as well as some benefits such as annual leave. After the calculation, I informed my family of the news and signed it after the meeting.
