The first bookstore Ze was born.

In 1901, Hua Zhihong resigned from the post of supervisor of training at the Renhuai Hall, and the previous year he saw thousands of Boxer boxers in Beijing and Tianjin collapsing in a pool of blood, and the Japanese were saddened by the glory of their military might on Chinese territory. He was completely disappointed in the Qing court, especially Cixi, and no longer had the ideal of joining the army and serving the country, at this time Hua Zhihong believed that the restoration and reform was the way out of the Great Qing Kingdom, and became a figure of the restoration faction. Hua Zhihong took over the family business at the age of fourteen, was proficient in business and self-deprecating, and his surname was Hao Shihe. At that time, Huajia wealth was not only rich in the southwest, but also rarely compared in China. Hua Zhihong has a unique view of money and wealth, he said: "It is necessary to know that silver money, public property between heaven and earth, is especially fake hands for people to use." If it is used properly, it is blessed, and if it is not used properly, it is a curse. It is advisable to hope that I have accumulated virtue, but that I may not accumulate wealth." He is determined to follow his father Hua Lianhui's last wish of "benefiting the society and being born". The first thing Hua Zhihong thought of was to open a bookstore. He talked to Tian Yuting (Tian Qinglin): "Guizhou is located on the border, traffic is blocked, and Guizhou has been backward for a long time. In order to catch up with the provinces and "rely on books", the so-called literature to carry the road, to reach the soul, I am ready to purchase printing machinery from Japan and set up the first bookstore in the southwest. Tian Yuting said: "I heard that Lord Li Shuchang is still serving as ambassador to Japan despite his eye disease, and Brother Hua can repair a letter and I will leave to live in Japan to do this." Hua Zhihong was very happy and said: "Brother Tian is willing to bear the best burden, but this goes to the mountains and high roads, crosses the ocean, and takes more care." You take our Hua family's "Bronze Eagle Iron Swallow Card", all the way up, all the usefulness but with this card to withdraw. Brother Pan Tian returned early. In the late autumn of that year, Tian Yuting went to Japan. The second thing Hua Zhihong thought of was "running a school." He first opened a "Tuanxi Second Class Primary School" in his hometown of Tuanxi in Bozhou, and then opened a "Wenchangge Primary School" in Xifengdi Village.

In 1902, the core figures of the Penghu Reform Law, Li Duandi, a Guiyang man, told the old man to return to his hometown, and the core figures of Guizhou's constitutional reform, Hua Zhihong, Tang Eryong, Le Caicheng, and Ren Kecheng, quickly gathered around Li Duandi. Here is a brief introduction to the other three, Tang Eryong: Tang Jiong's grandson, a junior soldier in the early years, served as the secretary of the cabinet, and abandoned his official position in 1902 and returned to The House. Le Caicheng: "A native of Huangping, Guizhou, he is extremely talented and a student leader in the three southwestern provinces." Ren Kecheng: AnShun ren, juren, relative of Li Duandi, student of Liang Qichao. The four of them are older and called "Brother Hua".

In 1905, Cixi decreed the abolition of the imperial examination and the revival of new learning. The "Guizhou Constitutional Society" was established mainly by Hua Zhihong and others, and the banner of constitutional reform was officially launched. In 1905, the construction of the "Guizhou Tong Provincial Middle School" began, and Hua Zhihong (now Guiyang No. 1 Middle School) invested 20,000 taels of silver. With the support of Pang Hongshu, then governor of Guizhou, he raised funds to establish the Guizhou Excellent Normal School and the Xianqun Law and Politics School, two schools Hua Zhihong donated silver. In 1907, the first newspaper in Guizhou, "Qian bao", funded by Hua Zhihong, le Cai Cheng, and ren Kecheng as the editor-in-chief, was printed and published by the "Wentong Bookstore" and sold tens of thousands of copies every day.

The "Wentong Bookstore" that printed the "Qianbao" was the bookstore that Hua Zhihong began to build in 1902. At that time, Tian Yuting went to Japan on the orders of Hua Zhihong to purchase printing equipment and paper, and found the Japanese ambassador Li Shuchang. Through the relationship between Lai and the purchase of the required equipment, and the Agreement with the Japanese manufacturer to train wentong Books to send personnel to learn technology, Wentong Books hired Japanese professional and technical personnel to Wentong Books. Machinery and equipment were transported from Japan to Shanghai, along the Yangtze River waterway to Luzhou, to Moutai Ferry port on land to Bozhou, across the Yau River ferry and then to Guiyang. The transportation time was as long as one year, and the cost was 200,000 taels of silver. Wentong Bookstore is located in Wangjia Lane, Zhonghua Road, covering an area of about 30 acres. By 1907, when wentong Bookstore officially opened, it was estimated that about 400,000 taels of silver had been used. Wentong Bookstore created several firsts in Guizhou: the first time to send people abroad to purchase machines; the first time to send people abroad to learn technology; the first time to hire foreign technicians; to train students; the first time to use steam as a driving force. Wentong Bookstore was not only the first modern industrial enterprise in Guizhou; it was also the largest investment in the domestic cultural industry at that time; it was also the most technologically advanced printing enterprise. After the opening of Wentong Bookstore, zheng zhen's works such as "Boya" and "Chao Jing Chao Poem" were first published to fulfill Hua Lianhui's last wishes. Hua Zhihong set up a eight-character motto for Wentong Bookstore: "The text carries the tao and reaches the heart.".

1, Huazhihong era Huajia property:

Hua Zhihong took over the "Yonglongyu" salt number at the age of fourteen, and under his management, there were hundreds of salt stores in Guizhou alone, and there were also salt numbers in thirteen provinces. At that time, the salt monopoly was the same as today's tobacco monopoly, and the after-tax profit margin reached 30%. According to various sources, the annual net income of Yonglong Yuyan was between 1 million and 1.5 million taels of silver. As for Huamao wine, due to limited production, it cannot be compared with the salt industry.
