Section 2 Summary

After the restoration of the uprising, the Guizhou military government was established.

The two factions fought each other, and Tang Jiyao's Dian army entered Qian.

Two months after the signing of the "Xinugu Treaty," Li Hongzhang fell ill and died, the Qing court was in turmoil, and various forces fought for it. Guizhou is located in a remote and relatively conservative position, with few revolutionaries. The strongest ones are the "Constitutional Preparatory Society" and the "Autonomous Society" of the Restoration Faction. The Constitutional Reserve Council is composed of a social elite whose goal is to establish a constitutional monarchy. The "Autonomous Society" was composed of revolutionary-leaning parties and hui parties (Brotherhood of elders, Qing Hongbang, etc.), which pursued individual freedom and local autonomy, and did not explicitly propose the overthrow of the Qing government. The Guizhou Autonomous Society was founded in December 1907, and the main characters were Zhang Bailin, Huang Zelin, Zhang Yizao, Zhou Suyuan and so on. The "Autonomous Society" has developed rapidly, with 100,000 people and 47 branches in one year. In the first year of Xuanun (1909), the Guizhou Consultative Bureau was established, and the Autonomous Society occupied the majority of seats, but the two factions were evenly matched. Hua Zhiyi, Tang Eryong, Ren Kecheng and others were elected to the Parliament. At the end of the year, an accident changed the balance of power of the Consultative Council.

The Tang family in Guiyang, from Tang Shuyi, Tang Jiong's father and son were all Qing Dynasty officials to inspectors (equivalent to provincial governors), and Tang Jiong's grandson Tang Eryong was appointed to the cabinet of zhongshu ling, who resigned in 1902 and returned to Guizhou to become the leader of the constitutional faction, whose popularity was unmatched. At the end of 1909, Tang Eryong's father, Tang Iji, shot and killed Tang Eryong from his brother Tang Fei in his own garden. It is rumored in society that Tang Fei was "incestuous" and was hunted down and killed by Tang Yiji (this matter is still unknown). In order to cover up this matter, Tang Eryong said in the "Qian Bao" that the "Autonomous Society" deliberately spread rumors and slandered the Tang family, and there was an uproar. When the Autonomous Society questioned the Consultative Bureau to investigate the facts, Tang was forced to resign as speaker and leave for Beijing the following year. (After the Xinhai Revolution, Tang Eryong served as the director of education in the Beiyang government, and died of illness in 1912) The leading figures of the Guizhou Constitutional Society were only Hua Zhihong and Ren Kecheng, and (Le Caicheng returned to Beijing two years ago) his strength was greatly reduced. The Tang family also declined as a result.

On October 10, 1911, the Xinhai Revolution broke out, and under the influence of the Yunnan Shouyi, on November 7 of that year, the "Autonomous Society" with the revolutionary party as the main uprising was successful, and Guizhou was restored and the "Great Han Guizhou Military Government" was established. Yang Xingcheng, the Qing military governor who participated in the uprising, was made the governor, Zhang Bailing, the leader of the Autonomous Society, was the president of the Privy Council, Ren Kecheng of the Constitutional Reserve Council was the deputy speaker, and Zhou Suyuan was the administrative premier. Hua Zhihong was appointed vice minister of finance and general office of the official Money Bureau. The uprising was basically resolved peacefully because The Governor of Guizhou, Shen Yuqing, accepted five conditions.

The story of Guiyang Huajia and Huamao wine

A member of the military government of Guizhou in the Great Han Dynasty

Although the Guizhou military government was established, the opposition between the Autonomous Society and the Constitutional Preparatory Association still existed, the military government emphasized autonomy, there was no clear direction, many departments were controlled by the Brotherhood of elders, and the subordinate new army was divided into two factions, autonomy and constitutionalism, secretly competing, so it was extremely unstable. In particular, before the former inspector Shen Yuqing handed over power, he secretly ordered Liu Xianshi, a trainer of the Xingyi regiment, to lead 1,000 troops to Guiyang to suppress the uprising, and Liu Xianshi went to Pingdai to hear about the establishment of the military government, and the troops stationed in Pingtai watched from the sidelines, posing a threat to the military government.

Sure enough, three months later, there was a "two, two" coup in Guiyang. The constitutionalists of the junta's new army rebelled on February 2, 1912, killing Huang Zelin of the Autonomous Society. Other important figures of the Autonomous Society, such as Zhang Bailin and Zhou Suyuan, fled, and the Guizhou military government fell into chaos. At this time, Liu Xianshi's army, which was stationed in Pingbei, quickly entered Guiyang, and the two factions of the new army and Liu Xianshi's army fought in a three-way melee, and it was difficult to distinguish between victory and defeat for a while. At this time, Ren Kecheng of the constitutionalist faction secretly contacted Cai Yi, the governor of Yunnan, and requested that troops be sent into Guizhou to "quell the chaos." On February 27 of that year, Cai Yi sent Tang Jiyao to lead the Dian army into Guiyang, and the two factions of the new army of the former military government were quickly incorporated, and Liu Xianshi accepted the leadership of Tang Jiyao. Tang Jiyao announced the establishment of the "Governor's Mansion of Guizhou", and made himself the governor and commander-in-chief of the Qian army (the new army was changed to the Qian army), and Liu Xianshi was appointed as the deputy governor. The Guizhou Restoration Revolution failed for four months, ending with the Yunnan army occupying Guizhou.

Tang Jiyao

Ren Kecheng secretly invited the Dian army to enter Qian, but Hua Zhihong did not know it beforehand. Tang Jiyao quickly put an end to the chaos Hua Zhihong to support him, and Tang Jiyao appointed Hua Zhihong as the financial secretary of the governor's office and the prime minister of the official Qian Bureau. Tang Jiyao decided to make his own currency and asked Hua Zhihong's Wentong Bookstore to design and be responsible for printing "Qian Coins". In 1912, Hua Zhihong was appointed "President of guizhou chamber of commerce".

1, Guizhou Autonomous Society: It is a complex organization with revolutionary party tendencies. His leading figures, Zhang Bailing, Huang Zelin, Zhou Suguo, and others, originally belonged to the constitutional faction, and were influenced by Sun Yat-sen's alliance to establish the Autonomous Society, but not opposed to the Qing government. Sun Yat-sen's League sent Ping Gang back to Guizhou to carry out activities, and the Autonomous Society transformed into a revolutionary party and secretly prepared for an uprising. However, its grassroots level was dominated by the Brotherhood of Elders and Qing Hongbang, and it could not form a truly revolutionary force, so the military government failed.

2, Ren Kecheng led the Dian army into Qian: Cai Yi and the dian army generals had a deep relationship with Kang Youwei and Liang Qichao's reformed constitutionalists, and at the same time cooperated closely with the Guizhou Constitutional Reserve. Ren Kecheng is a student of Liang Qichao and has a close personal relationship with Cai Yi. Therefore, it is understandable that Ren Kecheng invited Cai Yi to join the Qian to quell the chaos.
