The National Palace Museum in Taipei holds zhang zongcang landscape appreciation

Zhang Zongcang (1686-1756) character silently preserved, also known as Mo Cen, huangcun, cane weng, Taihu fisherman, late known as thin bamboo, Jiangsu Suzhou people. Qing Dynasty court painting occupies a very important role in the history of Qing Dynasty painting, Qing court painting continued for hundreds of years, cultivated a large number of painting masters, four kings, Yu Zhiding, Chen Mei, Jin Tingbiao, Ding Guanpeng, Tang Dai, Jin Kun, Lang Shining, Zhang Zongcang, etc., are very representative painters in Qing Dynasty court painting. In the "Qing History Manuscript and Art Biography", it is recorded: "The painting academy flourished in the Kang and Qian dynasties, with Tang Dai, Lang Shining, Zhang Zongcang, Jin Tingbiao, and Ding Guanpeng as the most." Zong Cang's work is especially morale. After the Light of the Road, there is no smell. ”

During the Qianlong period, more attention was paid to court painters, and a ruyi hall was specially set up to collect talents, and among the court painters of the Qianlong Dynasty, Zhang Zongcang was Qianlong's favorite one, which can be said to be "a special time to meet grace, and a long time". He was favored by the Qianlong Emperor for the qianlong emperor when he presented the album of "Sixteen Views of Wuzhong" during his southern tour of Qianlong, and then entered the court as a member of the court painters, because he was sixty-six years old at the time of the painting, so he only served in the court for four years. However, in four years, he painted 172 paintings for the Qianlong Emperor, all of which were extremely exquisite, and there were 116 works by Zhang Zongcang in the official document "Shiqu Baodi", which collected the fine works of the Qing Dynasty court calligraphy and paintings, and his paintings were evaluated fifteen times by Qianlong, and from the existing works, it can be found that the Qianlong Emperor often inscribed poems on Zhang's works. One of them, "Painting Landscape Maps", the Qianlong Emperor has inscribed 13 times on the screen, and in the "Title Zhang Zongcang Landscape Painting Song" personally inscribed by the Qianlong Emperor, Zhang Zongcang is praised as a giant of the art garden, which shows the qianlong emperor's satisfaction with Zhang's paintings and Zhang Zongcang's artistic achievements and position in the painting world at that time.

The overall pictorial meaning of Zhang Zongcang's landscape painting is close to that of Wang Yuanqi, the founder of the Loudong School, but the structure of his paintings is more rigorous, with a calm brush, the mountain stone method is mostly accumulated with dry brushes, and the combination of light ink, dry pen and rubbing techniques is commonly used in the forest, showing a far-reaching artistic conception and profound charm, and the sweet and mature habits of the painting academy are exhausted. Zhang Zongcang's painting expression technique also absorbed the style of dai jin, a master of the Zhejiang school in the middle of the Ming Dynasty, which shows that his pen and ink techniques are not limited by one family. No wonder Zhang Zongcang was deeply appreciated by Qianlong.
