However, while Zhang Boling was preparing to show his grand plan, the Beiyang Marine Division, known as the "First Great Fleet in Asia," had achieved nothing in front of the Japanese army, and he witnessed the situation of vanishing in an instant.
Then, he witnessed the ugly drama of "three changes in the national flag", profoundly realized the principle of ruling the country before saving the heart, indignantly abandoned the martial arts, and did not hesitate to embark on the road of education to save the country.

It was precisely because of Zhang Boling's belief that he would never give up until he reached his goal, Li Chun, the governor of Jiangsu who was already critically ill at the time, specially left a will for this purpose, and generously donated a quarter of his family property, a total of 500,000 yuan, to Nankai University.
Li Yuanhong, Xu Shichang, Feng Guozhang and others, who have successively served as presidents of the Republic of China, have also done their best to help and generously contribute to the construction of the school. At that time, in order to create Nankai University, no matter who came, Zhang Boling did not refuse and had a good attitude.
At that time, Cao Rulin, known as a traitor, wanted to donate a huge amount of money, and others were quite critical, but Zhang Boling intended to hire him as a school trustee. He explained: Beautiful flowers may be watered with dung.

In 1935, relations between China and Japan were so bad that the Japanese built their barracks at Haiguang Temple, between Nankai University and Nankai Middle School. This delicate position seemed to be a knife hanging above Zhang Boling's head.
But despite this, Zhang Boling still ran to the forefront of the patriotic salvation movement and publicly supported the student demonstration.
At the opening ceremony of Nankai's school, he threw out three questions that were deafening and deafening in disregard of safety, which stimulated the patriotic enthusiasm of Nankai teachers and students and strengthened the belief in patriotic salvation. The beliefs of teachers and students in the whole school are concentrated, the ideals are concentrated together, and the strength is concentrated.
However, Zhang Boling's actions stimulated the Japanese Kou, who hated him so much that they repeatedly sent spies to track and carry out secret assassinations. After the July 7 Incident, Japanese artillery sounded in Tianjin.
On July 29 of the same year, the Japanese army believed that "if you want to destroy your country, you must first destroy your species", and in disregard of international laws, they openly blew up the Nankai School. Zhang Boling's painstaking efforts were destroyed in this way, and Zhang Boling, who was in Nanjing, could not hear the tears and could hardly help himself.

This bad news of the separation of flesh and blood life and death made Zhang Boling silent for a long time, and finally said slowly: "It is good to die!" ”
To be born in a troubled world, to be able to sacrifice one's life for the country and to martyr the country with one's body, in a way, is indeed to die well and die well.
Although Zhang Boling, who encountered national difficulties, school difficulties, and family difficulties, was difficult to bear, the indomitable Chinese soul did not collapse. He stood on the ruins of Nankai and solemnly declared war on Japan.
He said: "Nankai's material can be blown up, but Nankai's spirit is not extinguished." "The devastated mountains and rivers cannot trap the iron bones of the patriots; the flames of war that are full of smoke and smoke cannot annihilate the light of faith of the Chinese nation."
On this bumpy road to national salvation, Zhang Boling forged ahead, had no complaints, no regrets, and finally achieved brilliant achievements. His lifelong faith is the most precious legend in the education of the Republic of China, and it is also a colorful stroke in the history of Chinese education.
In the late Qing Dynasty, Zhang Boling could not refuse Mr. Jiang's repeated invitations and agreed to temporarily assume the administrative position in March. However, as soon as he left Nankai on his front foot, he was dismissed from his post as the principal of Nankai on his back foot.
On October 17, 1950, Nankai University held a school celebration, and the then 75-year-old Zhang Boling went to Nankai with great expectations, but was turned away because of his identity problems.
The Nankai University that Zhang Boling built with his life's painstaking efforts did not welcome Zhang Boling's arrival in the end. This is undoubtedly a huge blow to him.

Throughout Zhang Boling's life, he changed careers from the navy and started from scratch to create the Nankai School. Along the way, we have experienced the disaster of school destruction and family death, but we are not pessimistic and desperate, do not forget our original intentions, and are unswerving. Finally, it has left an indelible contribution to the cause of education in the motherland.
