Winterpostelein in Dutch, belongs to the family Winterpostelein.

This plant is frost-resistant and therefore a great source of vitamin C and minerals such as calcium, magnesium, and iron in early spring. In the United States, the plant is prized by Native Americans and California prospectors. For the latter, it is an important anti-scurvy drug in early spring when vitamin C is deficient. Roots, stems, leaves, and flowers are all edible. Therefore, it is also known as "miner's lettuce", "American lettuce" or "English lettuce".
