How to resume sports after the new crown? Can I get myocarditis?

Recently, many friends around me are entering the stage of new crown recovery. But there are many concerns about whether you can exercise after recovery. There are also many readers who have reported that the heart rate is indeed too fast in recent exercise, and they are a little afraid.

After the new crown exercise, can you really get myocarditis? How long does it take to resume exercising after Yang Kang? And how can it be restored?

Exercise is not the cause of myocarditis

However, strenuous exercise can aggravate the effect of myocarditis

What do we know about coronavirus and acute myocarditis?

In this article, we discussed the relationship between myocarditis and the new crown. The general conclusion is that the new crown infection does increase the risk of myocarditis, but at present, the absolute value of this risk is not high.

Myocarditis is an inflammatory disease of the heart muscle that can be caused by a variety of causes, such as infections, autoimmune diseases, and some genetics.

Although exercise itself does not directly cause myocarditis, excessive fatigue, strenuous exercise, may aggravate the consequences of myocarditis, and can be fatal in severe cases.

Clinical studies at home and abroad have found that some new crown infected people will have symptoms of myocardial damage. The 2022 report of the American Heart Association's Clinical Data Standards Working Group shows that about 10%~20% of new crown hospitalized patients have myocardial damage of varying degrees.

Based on the impact of the new crown virus on the heart and the load of exercise on the heart, professional medical institutions are cautious about when ordinary people resume exercise after the new crown: take it slowly.

If you have chest pain, difficulty breathing, palpitations, syncope and other symptoms, remember to seek medical attention in time. Depending on the situation, doctors will do tests such as electrocardiogram, troponin, and ultrasound of the heart.

Although the risk of heart problems is not high for most people who have recovered from infection, we are still cautious. And after Yangkang, many people say that they are still very tired, and they are very tired when they move, so don't suddenly do strenuous exercise. Rest more, sleep more, and get back to work and exercise rhythmically.

So how long can I resume exercise after Yangkang, and how to recover step by step?

How to resume exercise after Yangkang?

Based on WHO information on resuming exercise after COVID recovery, we have compiled a guide to post-COVID exercise.

Whether you are afraid of myocarditis or not, you need to give your body one to two weeks to recover after recovering from the new crown. Our immune system has just finished an uphill battle, proper rest, adequate sleep is very important for the body's recovery.

If there are no cardiopulmonary symptoms during the infection, it is still recommended to avoid exercise for 7~10 days after the test results turn negative or all symptoms disappear, and then gradually restore the amount of exercise before infection in stages according to physical strength.

If you have turned negative, but still have some symptoms after the new crown, such as cough, palpitation, especially easy fatigue, etc., try not to exercise first, rest more, and recover slowly.

There is only one key point in resuming exercise: don't get too tired.

Step 1: Understand the body and learn to assess whether you are tired or not.

According to the scale introduced by WHO, we can use RPE scores (Brog Rating of Perceived Exertion) to help assess our own fatigue levels.

This scale is based on the physical sensations a person experiences during physical activity, such as a faster heart rate, sweating, and muscle fatigue.

When doing any exercise or movement, it can be scored according to the degree of physical exertion, such as lying in bed is 0 points, effortlessly, completing a very challenging exercise (for many people it may be the 800/1000 meter test in middle school) is 10 points, maximum effort.

With this table, we can record our feelings while gradually starting to return to movement.

Step 2: Do what you can, feel and recover.

The following is WHO's recommended exercise guidelines for people who have recovered from the new crown at different stages, so you can find the right exercise according to your stage and recover slowly.

All in all, take your time and don't rush. As long as we recover gradually and rhythmically, our physical condition before the new crown will be slowly recovered. I wish everyone a safe and healthy recovery and a speedy recovery.
