The president of the West African country of Liberia, George Weah (elected president at the end of 2017, picture 3), himself was a world-class star, playing for European giants such as AC Milan, Chelsea and Manchester City, winning two Serie A trophies, and becoming the top scorer in the Champions League. Weah Sr. also made football history in 1995, becoming the first person to win the Ballon d'Or, World Footballer of the Year and African Footballer of the Year in the same year (Figure 4).

Today, his son, Timothy Weah (Pictures 1-2), is also shining at the World Cup in Qatar. The son of a former New York-born star born in 2000 scored for the United States as its first World Cup goal in eight years.
