King Charles' crush revealed: Joan Collins, "girl" Barbra Streisand

King Charles' not-so-secret celebrity crush has always been Barbra Streisand – who has long kept a picture of her in a room at Buckingham Palace.

According to his upcoming biography, The King: The Life of Charles III, to be published on November 8, Charles once said, "'Barbra Streisand is my only cover girl!'" ’”

The royal once wrote: "People look at me in amazement when I say she's extremely attractive and sexy. ”

He was fascinated by the "Yentl" star while studying at Cambridge University in the late 1960s. While his peers were listening to the Rolling Stones and Led Zeppelin, Charles kept playing Streisand's albums,

"A personal favorite: the soundtrack to her 1968 Oscar-winning film 'Funny Girl,'" wrote author Christopher Anderson. He watched it three times. Streisand's photographs hung in her room in Cambridge and, after graduation, on the wall of her bedroom at Buckingham Palace. ”

Charles asked to meet Streisand on the set of Columbia Pictures, the sequel to "Funny Girl" in 1975. The two met and chatted for 15 minutes.

Andersen wrote that he later wrote in his Navy diary that he "really wanted to stay and get to know her," but she insisted on going back to work.

Charles added: "I still think she was very sexy after meeting her. ”

In 1994, Streisand sang "Someday My Prince Will Coming" for Charles at a gala concert at Wembley Arena in London. They met six months later when the royals arrived in Los Angeles for a whirlwind five-day visit.

The star secretly visited Charles in his suite at the Bel Air Hotel. When the news broke, his spokesman scoffed that they were only meeting for "private refreshments."

Nearly a year later, Streisand flew to London for a fundraising banquet for one of Charles' favourite charities, the Architecture Foundation.

According to the book, Elton John, who also attended a private dinner at Highgrove Palace, was "surprised" to see Streisand present and was "equally surprised" that both Princess Diana and Camilla Parker-Bowles were absent.

Andersen wrote that a staff member at Highgrove remembered them as "so affectionate with each other — so much so that when the staff met the couple in the prince's study, 'they were very flustered.'" ”

Streisand wasn't the only celebrity to catch the monarch's attention.

He also admired Joan Collins after dancing with "Dynasty" actresses during the 1985 U.S. royal tour.

According to the book, Charles wrote in a letter: "She is very interesting and has an incredible cleavage! All of them are held up like pallets! ”
