"Foreigners Tell Stories: Overseas Employees Look at China", No. 3

Name: Anna Koshunnova

Nationality: Russian

Occupation: General Manager of the Legal Department of Baltic Pearl Co., Ltd

Beautiful blonde hair, elegant conversation... Anna Koshunova, who talks in front of the camera, is already an "old employee" of Baltic Pearl Co., Ltd. for nearly 17 years.

This project, jointly invested and developed by Shanghai Industrial Group and several enterprise groups representing Shanghai and China's strength, is named "Pearl" in St. Petersburg, Russia, and it is indeed as bright as a pearl. The project has not only received the attention and visits of Chinese and Russian leaders Xi Jinping and Putin many times, but also made significant contributions to the economic and social development of St. Petersburg in the past 17 years.

As the general manager of the legal department, Anna has built a bridge of communication and coordination between China and Russia, and helped the Chinese management to demonstrate and consolidate the image of an honest, trustworthy and responsible Chinese company. "I have never regretted this decision over the years, it was a meaningful self-challenge." For joining Chinese companies, she said so.

Providing legal advice to pearls

In 2004, Anna ended a two-year expatriate in Lianyungang, Jiangsu Province, and moved to St. Petersburg. During her search for a new job, she learned from the media about the "Pearl of the Baltic Sea" project, and knew that St. Petersburg was going to cooperate with the sister city of Shanghai, planning to build a large comprehensive development zone along the Gulf of Finland southwest of St. Petersburg.

In June 2005, the governments of St. Petersburg and Shanghai signed the Strategic Investment Agreement with Shanghai Overseas Joint Investment Co., Ltd., and decided that the Baltic Pearl Company would develop the land. The project covers a total area of 208 hectares, with a total investment of 1.346 billion US dollars, a total building area of 1.76 million square meters, a total residential population of 35,000 people, and a construction period of 6 to 8 years.

At this time, Anna, eager to accumulate new experience and professional skills, developed a strong interest in joining the project. In October 2005, she joined the company as legal counsel and was later promoted to Legal Department Manager. In addition to ensuring that the company carries out its general legal activities in accordance with the requirements of the laws of the Russian Federation, she also provides legal advice for the Baltic Pearl Multi-Purpose Complex (District), which is a special experience in St. Petersburg and even in Russia.

"Although the urban construction regulations of the two countries are very different, and there are also big differences in the way government departments are organized, Pearl Company still adheres to the principle of down-to-earth and meticulously and systematically builds a modern community." Working for a company in China makes me and my family proud and feel that I am personally involved in the creation of the history of the development of St. Petersburg. Anna said.

Significant contributions have been made over the past 17 years

The Pearl of the Baltic Sea project is the first integrated development project in the local area, creating a unique model of cooperation between the government and investors, that is, as part of the investment obligation, the investor undertakes the construction obligation of roads, engineering pipe networks and social facilities, and after completion, these public facilities are handed over to the city.

"Not only in terms of tax payments, but also in the city and in Russia as a whole, it sets the banner and benchmark for the same type of project." Anna said, "In the eyes of city dwellers, the Baltic Pearl project has established a positive and positive corporate image. Living in the Pearl neighborhood is considered a decent thing to do, and the company has been on the list of the best developers in the city and has also promoted residential development in the neighboring area. ”

Therefore, as a member of the company, Anna also has a great sense of accomplishment. She believes that although there are differences in the Chinese of Russia, there are also commonalities, so there will not be too many misunderstandings and cognitive differences in daily work. Moreover, in Chinese enterprises, employees have more opportunities to play their potential, and leaders can also find the shining points of employees. Anna went to China Head Office to learn large-scale project development experience, and learned a lot of new knowledge in construction, sales organization and other aspects. In negotiations and other work, she insists on safeguarding the interests of the company as the starting point. After a series of complex negotiations, St. Petersburg issued a government decree confirming the phased development of the project and a clear and detailed list of obligations, which was also Anna's "highlight moment".

Is the "fan sister" of Chinese food and Andy Lau

Anna studied at Beijing Language and Culture University for a year Chinese before graduating from the Law Department of Chinese University, majoring in economic law. Because of this experience, she has been trying to understand China's folk customs, long history and culture in more ways. Her excellent Chinese skills have facilitated her work and enabled her to translate for Chinese management during meetings and negotiations. In the Mid-Autumn Festival, employees from the two countries will taste mooncakes together, and there is a day off every Spring Festival.

Privately, Anna especially likes to eat Chinese food, often addicted to China's tempting cuisine and can't help herself, and loves Sichuan and Northeast Chinese cuisine. Looking back on her student days in Beijing, she also remembered an interesting story. At that time, many international students were Andy Lau's "fans", and Anna also wanted to see him personally. Once, she and her friends went to the film set to make a cameo appearance as a mass actor, and actually met the idol herself on the next set, even if she didn't say anything in the end, it was an unforgettable memory in her heart.
