It is a large, perennial or annual floating leaf herb of the genus Phylloscopus in the family Water Lilyaceae. It has a giant, peculiar disc-like blade that floats on the surface of the water and can reach a diameter of up to 3 meters. The flowers of Wang Lian are large, 25-40 cm in diameter.
Wang Lian flowers from summer to autumn, and the flowering time is three days. On the first day, the flower buds protrude out of the water and open, the flowers are white, the next morning they gradually close, and in the evening they open again, the petals turn reddish to purple-red, and on the morning of the third day they close and wither and sink into the water.
Native to South America, Wang Lian has been introduced to all parts of the world.
