On 9 August, the Kazakh Security Council made public a case of an attempted assassination of President Kassem Jormat Kmelevich Tokayev.

On 3 April, Kazakh security services arrested Ayan Atigayaev, a special agent of the General Staff Intelligence Directorate of a certain country, in nur-Sultan, under the cover of a journalist. A sniper rifle with a silencer, scopes, tripods, several grenades and a large number of dollars were seized.

It was reported that after entering Kazakhstan from a neighboring country on March 25, Atigayav was reportedly followed and monitored by agents of the Ukrainian counter-intelligence service.
