The 2023 Rolex Awards for Enterprise (RAE) officially opens applications to select five visionaries from around the world who aspire to change the world to protect the planet and enhance human well-being through their pioneering and far-reaching projects.
The Rolex Awards for Innovative Projects cover five main areas: health science, environmental protection, applied technology, discovery and cultural heritage. There are no academic or professional requirements for this award, and anyone aged 18 or over around the world, regardless of gender or nationality, can register for the Rolex Excellence Awards 2023. Since its inception in 1976, 35,500 applicants from 190 countries and territories have applied for the Prize, and a total of 155 winners have been selected so far, with the youngest winner being only 24 years old and the oldest being 74 years old. Over the past 46 years, the Projects of the Rolex Grand Prix winners have reached millions of people worldwide.
They have planted about 23 million trees, protected 43 endangered species such as snow leopards and seahorses, as well as 30 major ecosystems, including 57,600 square kilometers of the Amazon rainforest, and explored hundreds of new species. To date, the winners have completed 18 challenging expeditions to provide more guidance for humanity to gain insight into the planet.
The level of technology of the award-winning projects ranges from simple technical devices to advanced technological experiments, from pot-in-pot refrigerated jars for food preservation in desert areas to electronic implants that help the disabled get back on their feet. The laureates have led cultural heritage projects around the world, including reviving ancient silk-making techniques in Cambodia, excavating important prehistoric sites in Georgia, and mapping resources in the Sahel using the wisdom of indigenous peoples to prevent climate change-related conflicts.
Applications for the Rolex Excellence Awards 2023 will close on Monday, 17 October 2022.
