Do what you like – the use of enticing plants
Planting enticing plants is one of the methods of Integrated Pest Management (IPM). Since plant-eating insects usually eat a variety of host plants, and the degree of feeding of various plants is obviously different, the selection of plants with a higher degree of pest feeding, properly planted near the main planting crops, can lure pests to the enticing plants to concentrate on killing, reduce the harm to the main crops, while also reducing the use of pesticides, slowing down the occurrence of pest resistance.
The planting layout of the enticing plant depends on the type of pest. The main cultivation methods include two types: surround planting and checkerboard type. Wrap-around planting is the planting of enticing plants around the main crops, mainly used to block the migration of insects from outside such as bugs and thrips; Checkerboard planting is suitable for the control of insect pests with slow migration speed such as golden turtles and nematodes, and is also suitable for the use of fields with relatively small cultivation areas.
There are many kinds of enticing plants, and the ability of different attracting plants to attract different pests is also obviously different, such as planting alfalfa in wheat fields to control aphids, planting vetiver in rice fields to control large borers and dimorphs, using beans to control corn leafhoppers and beetles, cultivating radishes or mustards to control cabbage beetles and aphids, planting mountain radishes to trap slugs, and also protecting solanaceae, cruciferous, legumes and cucurbitaceae plants from nematodes
The use of enticing crops is not once and for all, not only to correctly choose the collocation between crops, but also to correctly manage and remove the enticing pests in time. At the same time, we must also pay attention to the timely use of drugs, and the rational use of a variety of means can control pests at a low level.
