The natural division of bees by bees

author:Shanghai Bee Breeding Research Base

Bees rely on natural bees to survive and reproduce, and a queen can mate with multiple male bees, so a group of bees is composed of queen bees, male bees, and many half-sibling and half-bees, which are related. So what is the relationship between bees in this "big family" of bees? We all know that the bees that are separated are young and middle-aged bees in the big family, and the old and young bees are basically not separated. The bees that are separated have to "rebuild their homes", they have to hurry, and they can't take anything with them at home, so the old and young bees can't go. Some researchers believe that the colony is determined by kinship, that is, the colony is the same father and mother relationship. I will do the following analysis on this:

1. The first time the bee is divided, most of them are separated by the old king, and the worker bees with the same parents as the old king have long gone, and the ones that fly out with the bee group are her offspring, and they are mother-child relationships.

2. The second time the bee is divided is the new king, its mother and multiple male bees intercourse, assuming that with 5 male bees to cross the tail, then with this new king is the same parent sisters accounted for about 1/5 of the total bee volume, but each time the bee separation of the bees to account for 1/3 to 1/2 of the total bee population, the extra bees are certainly not sisters with the same parents.

3. Sisters with parents are not born at the same time on the same day, so the same parents and sisters also have old and young young bees, separated from the group without old and young bees, they arrive at the new nest, to rush in good weather as soon as possible to build a nest, collect honey powder and breed bees, heavy work. Elderly bees have normal deaths every day, in order to keep the group of new bees out of the room before the group does not decline, the elderly bees will not be separated, young bees are not far away, so it will not be separated. According to the analysis of "deciding by kinship", this group worker bee only accounts for 1/5 of the group, and the old and young bees cannot be separated, so the number of the group worker bees is less than 1/5 of the total number of bees in the group, which is not in line with the facts.

The above analysis is enough to show that the statement "decided by kinship" is incorrect. The natural bee split of the bees is the majority of the young and middle-aged bees in the colony, and there are no young and old bees. Because the original bee colony has a nest spleen, a honey powder spleen, as well as a capping spleen and a few larvae, the bee colony will soon be replenished by the young bees that have come out of the room, so the swarm of the original swarm will not decline quickly after the bee is divided, and the new king will begin to lay eggs after about 10 days.

On the other hand, assuming that there is a preferential behavior of relatives in the natural bee, as long as the elderly bees and young bees with the parents of the queen bee are separated with the queen, some bees cannot fly to the destination, so there is no preferential behavior of relatives in the natural bees of the bees. To this end I do a trial to verify:

On September 21, 2010, 2 kg of rape honey produced in spring was added with a small amount of milk to make the honey color white, and 2 kg of miscellaneous nectar produced in July was added with a small amount of ink to make the honey color darker. On September 15, the two 8-frame groups that Wang Tai had begun to cover were proposed to 2 boxes, and the bees were added to other groups, and the 2 groups were gradually brought closer, 1m apart, and on the 18th, the bees were fed at night with honey of two colors and installed anti-escape devices. At 10:30 a.m. on the 20th, the bees began to be divided, and due to the installation of the escape device, the queen bee could not fly out and did not divide. At 6 p.m. with a sprayer will be 2 groups of spleen spray honey water, each bee sprayed, the original use of what color is still used in this color, a few minutes of bees sucked the honey juice with color on the body, in the evening with a rapid merger method to merge the two groups, remove the anti-escape device, the test operation is completed.

The next day, it was a sunny day, and the bees began to divide at 10 o'clock in the morning, and a large bee colony flew out. The author randomly caught 20 bees on the bee colony and found that the honey in 11 honey sacs was light colored, which was the bee fed to the rape bee colony, and 9 dark color were fed to the miscellaneous flower bee colony. The two groups are not related by blood, but fly into the same bee colony. This shows that there is no preferential behavior of relatives in natural bees, in fact, this is the case for any breed of bees.

A few years ago, I saw in a magazine that researchers believed that the feeding of bees also had preferential treatment for relatives, and I denied this possibility at the time. When I was in the wild bee colony over the box, due to the poor spleen binding, in order to repair the nest spleen quickly, the spleen with poor quality of the bound spleen was added to the group, and after two days of examination, the larvae on the spleen were well fed, and there was no bite and drag phenomenon. This has happened many times, indicating that there are no group boundaries for the same species of bee feeding.
