ZTE Axon 40 series released: the third generation of off-screen camera + ultra-narrow bezel

Compared with Rongmi OV, ZTE's attention in the mobile phone market is not high, but ZTE has its own characteristics in some aspects.

Previously, ZTE has released 2 mobile phones with off-screen cameras. On May 9, ZTE officially released its third off-screen camera phone, the ZTE Axon 40 series, including the Axon 40 Pro and Axon 40 Ultra, two new machines.

In the past, several under-screen camera mobile phones are still a niche choice in the market, can ZTE's persistence set off greater waves?

Appearance: Ultra-narrow border + true full screen

Before the press conference, the well-known whistleblower Ice Universe in the digital circle said, "What Samsung didn't do, ZTE did" (Samsung did not do, ZTE did). It not only alludes to the similarity between the frontal appearance of the ZTE Axon 40 Ultra and the Samsung S22 Ultra, but also seems to indicate that ZTE makes up for the regret that Samsung did not use the off-screen camera on the S22 Ultra.

From the front point of view, the screen of ZTE Axon 40 Ultra is undoubtedly the biggest highlight, continuing the true full screen design of the Axon series since the Axon 20 using the off-screen camera, and the pixel density of the camera area has increased to 400PPI, which ZTE calls the "third generation of off-screen camera".

At the same time, the surrounding border is further narrowed, the black edges on both sides of the screen are only 0.6mm, and the curved screens on both sides further increase the visual screen ratio.

In contrast, the back of the ZTE Axon 40 Ultra is much "unremarkable", using a vertical three-camera module, surrounded by ZTE's Label 2.0 design, and the camera module has a unique design similar to a "small label" on the side.

The Axon 40 Ultra is 8.4 mm thick and weighs 204 grams, with two colors: ink and Dunhuang.

The Axon 40 Pro is a common center-in-centered hole-cutting screen, and the rear camera module adopts a dual-ring design similar to huawei's P50 series, with three lenses in two circles.

In terms of weight, the ZTE Axon 40 Pro reached 199 grams, which is slightly bulky in a group of mobile phones equipped with Snapdragon 870, providing three colors of phantom black, crystal blue and star orange.

Performance: Performance iron triangle

ZTE Axon 40 Ultra adopts the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1+UFS3.1+LPDDR5 full-blood version of the flagship machine, which is the iron triangle configuration of the current top configuration of Android, and the performance has reached the current top level of Android. The Axon 40 Pro is the standard Snapdragon 870 for the sub-flagship.

On the heat dissipation, the heat dissipation area of nine layers totaling more than 36,000 square millimeters is used in the way of "super two-way VC liquid cooling", but whether it can really suppress the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 dragon still needs to be actually experienced.

In terms of display, ZTE Axon 30 Ultra adopts a 6.8-inch OLED screen with a resolution of 2480x1116, supports a refresh rate of 120Hz and a sampling rate of 360Hz, DCI-P3 color gamut and HDR 10bit color depth, and this screen has also passed the German Rheinland TUV eye protection certification.

The Axon 40 Pro is a 6.67-inch 1080P 144Hz AMOLED hyperboloid screen with a refresh rate. Both support off-screen fingerprint recognition.

In terms of battery life, Axon 40 series mobile phones use a 5000 mAh battery, the Axon 40 Ultra supports 80W fast charging, and the Axon 40 Pro is 66W fast charging. Not having wireless charging can be a small pity.

Video: Three-camera system with support for 8K video shooting

The ZTE Axon 40 Ultra uses two Sony IMX787 cameras as the main camera and ultra-wide angle, supports omni-pixel omnidirectional focus, and a periscope telephoto camera, all 64 million pixels, and all three main cameras can directly shoot 8K video.

The main camera and telephoto support OIS optical image stabilization, while supporting TOF laser focus sensors can enhance the focus ability of low-light scenes.

The ZTE Axon 40 Pro uses quad cameras, consisting of a 100 million pixel main camera + 8 million ultra-wide angle lens + 2 million pixel depth of field camera + 2 million pixel macro camera.

In terms of front camera, the ZTE Axon 40 Ultra adopts a 16-megapixel front-facing camera, which supports ZTE's self-developed front-facing algorithm 3.0, which can optimize the camera imaging quality.

Previously, the actual imaging quality of the off-screen cameras of various manufacturers was not ideal, and it is not known whether ZTE, which has been deeply cultivated for three generations in this field, can deliver a satisfactory answer this time.

In terms of other configurations, the ZTE Axon 40 Ultra is equipped with NFC, X-axis linear motor, infrared remote control, independent safety chip, stereo dual speakers and so on.
